This would be a blessing if this team becomes a reality. I figured I would have to drive to orlando to see a few matches this year, evn though it is PDL I will be there supporting.

That is a pretty sweet crest. FC J-A-X. I like the way that sounds... and at 2 hrs from me is now the closest "pro" soccer team.

Supporters clubs are rare for PDL teams. If you can't find one, form one! It could help FC Jax get more than a PDL team in the future. :)

Im pretty unfamiliar with the PDL. They get no coverage at all in Jax, maybe this will change? I want to start one up, so it shall happen.

JACKSONVILLE UNITED FC - to compete in U.S. Open Cup

    From TheCup.us web site:

Jacksonville United FC: The Florida club is a new entry into the NPSL this season, but fans of the US Open Cup will recognize the team. Jacksonville United is a product of a merger of Open Cup regulars Lynch’s FC (Lynch’s Irish Pub / DS United) and the Jacksonville United youth academy. Lynch’s has qualified for the Open Cup three times (2003, 2007, 2009) in the last eight years. The team is coached by Pat Cannon, a recent inductee into the University of West Florida Hall of Fame.

The qualification process has been set for one of the four National Premier Soccer League’s automatic berths into the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The Southeast Division’s spot will feature a six-team tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. May 27-29, according to the website of host Chattanooga FC.

Hosted at Finley Stadium, the event kicks off Friday, May 27 with a pair of First Round matches. Knoxville Force and Jacksonville United FC meet in the first match followed by Rocket City United versus FC Tulsa.

The two winners advance to play the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves and host Chattanooga FC Saturday evening. The tournament champion will be played Sunday night to determine the US Open Cup entrant. New club Georgia Revolution are the only team in the division not slated to participate.

Previous NPSL qualification opportunities were primarily held via the regional USASA tournaments. Three clubs participated in the Region III tournament a year ago, but were unable to earn one of the two berths on the line, finishing a combined 2-4-3 in group play.

Both PDL and NPSL teams in Jacksonville. That's a recipe for disaster.

Just moved here From Charlotte where I went to a bunch of Eagles matches. Is there promotion from the PDL or is this a closed system?

Like everything else in America, it's a closed system. But there is precedent in USL for teams to "move up" to the pro leagues. It takes a fairly involved and deep-pocketed investor, though.

FC Jax Destroyers is 1-1-0 (W-L-D) following an opening loss to Mississippi Brilla 2-0, and a 3-1 win at Nashville Metros. They have their home opener tomorrow night (Thu 5/19) against Mississippi, 7pm at Jacksonville University.

Jacksonville United is 0-3-0. Their opener is Saturday against Rocket City United at Patton Park.

Reading PA has both a PDL and NPSL team and they both seem to be doing ok. Since were not talking about needing a lot of people to break even at this level, probably not a big deal as you would think.

FC Jax drew 1,111 to their home opener, but lost 5-0 to Mississippi Brilla. They play at home again tonight, hosting the Nashville Metros.

I do not see any attendance info for NPSL.

There IS a supporters club for the FC Jax Destroyers. You can find them at http://www.mantheguns.org.

The attendance for the second Destroyers home game was somewhere in the neighborhood of 860.

The attendance for the Jacksonville United NPSL team was something like 624 for their first home game.

I've been to all three games and had a great time. I'm really enjoying the chance to watch higher level soccer here in Jacksonville and I want to see the support for both teams continue to grow.
