Andrew Wiebe has a new blog for the Wizards, in his first write up he has news on the game,

It says in there we are probably going to be fielding a reserve squad for the USOC game against the Rapids...

I wish we'd put our first team in the USOC for once.

That's the author making an assumption on the quote from Onalfo, there's nothing factual in there to say we're going to play our reserves that I see.

    Mike, I hope your correct.

$20 tickets for a reserve match won't please too many fans.

I hope so too, I really do, for the exact reason you said.

Anybody in Albuquerque know this game is going to be played? I can't seem to find any local news stories about it at all, and I've never found much soccer coverage in New Mexico media anyway..... so I wonder why this game is being played in a media vacuum?

OZ City had a good question today of why is this being played at the football stadium instead of UNM's soccer field. I can't see this drawing more than 5K or so unless they have a huge Guatemalan population.

Lineup is up on Hillcrest along with the post for running commentary

    -------------Kronberg---------------

    Leathers--Conrad--Wahl--Harrington

    Arnaud--Jewsbury--Zavagnin--Marinelli

    -------Pore---------Trujillo---------

Subs: Myers, McMahen, Morsink, McKenzie, Hohlbein, Colombano, Marquess, Souter, Kraus, Pardo, Pizarro

    http://hillcrestroad.blogspot.com/2008/05/kansas-city-vs-csd-municipal-running.html

    I'd expect
    -------------Pardo---------------
    Myers--McKenzie--Hohlbein--Marquess
    Pizarro--Morsink--McMahen--Souter
    -------Colombano---------Kraus---------
in the second half or something like it, although I'm not sure about where McMahen, Souter, and Kraus will play.

looks like Municipal's lineup has quite a few guys that have represented Guatemala with the national team. Including Juan Carlos Plata, who is tied with Ruiz for most goals for the national team.

Well 2-0 at the half, both goals by Trujillo one off a corner from Marinelli one from Arnaud. From the write up we've been dominating.

Maybe they learned they have to have some advertising before you just drop a game into Albuquerque with two non-local teams. Word of mouth didn't do any good.

    4 things:
    1. If not for this thread, I still wouldn't know about this game and the thread title didn't let me know it was the Senior Team playing...I thought it might be a youth cup of some sort.
    2. So this wasn't a commercial success. Trying and failing is fine. We also don't know who took the brunt of the financial loss, could have been the stadium people. Mountail folks are different to a degree as they generally enjoy the outdoors more or thier economy is more dependant on it, businesses etc. This time of year certain activities they have been waiting all fall and winter to do are either just now available or at a peak of sorts, so maybe sitting in a stadium isn't top on the list exactly. Hopefully something is learned (although this had been done before with similar results). 2 years from now this game is probably at Bannister. Ideally 20 years from now, this game in an off-week annual event that expands into something much much different and better.
    3. I'd rather KC travels and plays this game than staying home and having a scrimmage or playing a local college team during their off time. Plus, maybe the game at altitude helps for this weekend.
    4. A win is good, so is the shutout. It's been a while for either. CD Muni isn't RSL, but a win is a win.
