I disagree, we should try to be as high as possible. We deserve to be higher and would be if we would have sent the best to Copa America
When Fifa is coming up with seeds for World Cup groups, don´t they take into consideration even a little bit the fifa rankings?
A lotta bit last time. http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/fifafacts/mencompwc/82/40/89/fs-201_12a_fwc-seeding.pdf
Really can't believe England is rank 3..it is such a joke. 2013 we should be in the top 10 again..after the gold cup which our u23 and mixture of a few older players should have a good chance at winning...and hopefully we make it to the simis or further in the confed
You just need to understand how they are calculated and what that tells you. Hint: It's not a ranking who's the current best team(s). So if you're critisizing that ranking every ********in month because it doesn't mirror your current fictive ranking than it's your fault.
If this ranking system doesn't rate the current best teams, then FIFA lose the whole idea of rankings then. Oh well no big deal. This ranking doesn't mean jack anyway.
This^ and if you are curious about who the stronger teams are, elo and/or espn spi are better than fifa. Except fifa uses them to allot the top group seeds at the WC.
wait so we have a ranking call FIFA World Rankings that doesn't show current up to date rankings but it's my fault??? no mames!!!!
I know FIFA rankings are a joke, but why is Colombia so high? what have they won over the years? They didn't even make last WC. How a nation that hasn't made a WC the last few times is ranked that high is a shocker.
FIFA rankings are based on a team's performance over the last four years, with more recent results and more significant matches being more heavily weighted to help reflect the current competitive state of a team. We were already around the 20# mark prior to the last 2 WCQ matches but strong WINS in September versus HIGHLY ranked Uruguay (4-0) (unbeaten in the last 17 matches prior to this game) and HIGHLY ranked Chile 1-3 in Santiago gave us a boost. Beating Peru in Lima and Mexico earlier this year, helped as well.
I think I've mentioned this before, Edgar posts previews of the fifa rankings for those interested. http://www.football-rankings.info/ My main interest has not been in the monthly rankings, but in his WC seeding updates, where Mexico is now up to 15- http://www.football-rankings.info/2012/09/2014-fifa-world-cup-seeding-update-21.html Continued good performances in qualifiers and Gold/Confederations Cups will allow Mexico to climb within striking distance of a seed at the WC. Edgar, I know you regularly forecast the monthly FIFA rankings based on ELO-driven match forecasts. When will the number of matches be small enough for you to entertain forecasting the WC seeds? Could you do a rough estimate by just looking at the matches for your current October 2013 top 20-top 30? It seems that Mexico (and CIV if they qualify to the Confed) stand to gain the most over the next year because of the additional heavy weighted matches averaged in, and I'm curious how much they stand to gain.
