Hasn't Packwood been playing RB and D-Mid ? and is Brooks now in question? Not 100% sure as it seems things change from week to week

I think Packwood started at CM with Birmingham over the weekend. Thought he has featured primarily at CB in the preseason, although with the youth team a combo of CDM and CB.

Brooks appears to be in the doghouse after some untimely gaffes but I don't think this puts his prospect status in question as he is only 19 and the learning curve in even BL2 can be steep.

Patience will be the key for these three under 20 defenders all playing for clubs in challenging leagues for players so young. I wouldn't put too much value in week to week analysis or news. It may take 2-3 years to fully see one or more pan out or fail.

Thanks for clarifying. Have yet to see young Will play and am intrigued by his versatility.

He would have if we had locked down the hex. Do you think he is going to sign up when we don't know if we are going to make it? If JK contacts him and likes what he says, we may see him in January

Clark is perhaps the most undeserved hated players on this board. What has he done so terrible? Yeah, he had a giveaway in the world cup in the middle of the field... But the CBs should have been supporting him and Howard was way out of position. Rico will always be one of the best CDMs we have had due to his athleticism, range, and tackling ability.

True. Still, his odds seem better with the USA than with Iceland, even considering how Iceland is doing right now.

Thing about the GC is, that given we're still struggling with countries like Jam and Guat, and given we don't have anything near a solidified first XI and Clint/LD/MB have seen so little time together, unless all that somehow changes before then and we collectively see a considerable bump in form I'm not sure we can use the GC as an opportunity to throw a bunch of new guys out there to evaluate.

That's what I wanted, and assumed would happen for awhile. But going on what we're currently seeing with our senior team I don't think we can waste that opportunity to have them gel even more and hopefully get some confidence. Win the damn thing. I'd still hope we see a few new faces as the Hex won't be the time for that but our current senior team has so many unknowns right now, so little chemistry and the appearance of less confidence/fight in them than they used too a couple years ago, I don't see how JK doesn't call in the regular guys, a few new ones and try to build from there, unless of course something changes between the fall and spring.

Otherwise, I'd guess that in Jan the young guys will be playing for a spot in the GC,in which JK probably picks about five of them and brings them in with most of the top guys.

Without Ricardo Clark, there is no way the US team beats Spain at the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Also, the US team likely doesn't even make the Confrderations Cup because Ricardo's game against Mexico in the 2007 Gold Cup Final was stellar.

Both of those performance from Rico in two of the USMNT's biggest wins since the 2002 WC were likely the two best performances by a US d-mid ever. Period

And yet another point... Without his classy goal in the 09 hex against T&T, qualifying is very problematic

Clark is very unfairly maligned. His high moments were simply huge to the US team

It's not that he's promising now for our future... it's that he has helped us out a lot during the Bradley era and if we got into an emergency situation, the world would not be over if he were to get some time.

It's too bad he was at fault for that goal in the 2010 WC Round of 16 against Ghana.

Ricardo Clark messed up. But he was not 100% responsible for that goal and in no shape or form does that mess up even compare to some of the mess ups we've seen at the World Cup. Where were the defenders backing him up? He was in the middle of the field! there's no excuse for that. And what the hell was Tim Howard doing?

I swear the crap that Ricardo Clark gets for that one play is absolutely absurd.

Yes, he was partially at fault for a goal in the World Cup. There were others at fault too.

It doesn't diminish that he had some absolutely huge moments for the US team as well.

I'm not saying Clark has any real future with the US national team but it is terrible that so many US fans don't look back on his contributions to the US team fondly. It really is a shame. He had a huge role in some of the team's biggest wins the past decade.
