I have a feeling they were thinking more about the crest than anything. And I can't say that taking a look at your brand and what it means to folks doesn't make sense after the over 15 years we've been around. You do have to freshen up every so often. I hope it's not the disaaster that the Buffaslug or the NY Groten Fisherman (Islanders) logos were. Or the phallic symbol cannon mascot here. But I would expect some changes if the survey leads that way--as after all last year's *did* lead to the elimination of the Crewzers.
In all seriousness, why not install a proper bar at the stadium and call it "Hejduk's"? Am I off my rocker?
For some reason, there was one item/term that jumped out at me in the 5 descriptions of Columbus; "Capital City". Got the feeling there might be something there with a name change. I do have the feeling it's more the crest than the colors for whatever reason. It's not uncommon for teams to modify their logo and, to a lesser extent, colors. Name changes are less common though (MLS excepted).
In one of the great flimflam moves, HSG rebrands as Columbus Lanus. After being asked to see if a napkin smelled like chloroform, GBS wakes up in a somewhat familiar place and sees a familiar team name and starts coaching here in Ohio. SS and MLS Cup later, nobody questions what exactly happened.
I just took the survey as well. I absolutely do not want a name or color change(otherwise I'd have to bleed something else) but am perfectly fine with changing the crest. Although I see what kgilbert is saying about second crest not embroidering well, I happen to like the concept and it is similar to what I was envisioning for a crest change. I would take out the ohio part out of the crest though.
I do. It's part of our identity, and I like it. If that logo was good enough for Guillermo, it's good enough for all of us. [/discussion]
Touche on simple but effective front. Since it appears this survey was not for the massive majority of fanatics (I guess half-season ticket holders need not apply), I'm in the camp of re-branding the logo not a bother. Fortune 500, sports clubs and hell even my own employer(s) have done this through the journey of history Colors, well, that's obvious. Stay true to the current yellow (gold) and black. Team name? Columbus doesn't bother me, since after all that's where the team is. And as that relates to the crest, I have a slight woody for those which have elements of the city and/or region which could add to some sort of civic pride to the team. All in all, trophies and cups are what matter to me.
