I knew they would have to change their logo. The old one just didn't have enough contrast in it. If you looked at it among all the other WPS logos, it looked like a gray blur. They changed it to a much bolder and simpler design which will stand out more. I think it's a huge improvement.
That's not new, nor the official logo now. That's a secondary logo that's been around since the beginning (it's on those cheap scarves Athletica initially put out, and on several of the t-shirts they've given out). Athletica's not changing their logo. And IMO it's the best in US soccer that I've seen. The Joan of Arc figure is just awesome.
First time I've seen it, and it is figuring prominently on the site, and I believe the Twitter account. Looks very nice, though I was pretty used to what they had.
They announced the change on Twitter??? <goes to look> Oh, no they didn't, they just changed the profile pic. The did that on Facebook, too. About a month ago. I wouldn't think much of it. I find it hard to believe that's their new main logo, mostly because A) yes, that design is quite old, about a year by now, and B) it has no words on it. Maybe I haven't seen enough, but what pro sports team had a main logo that didn't say who they were on it?
I hope it's not a change. Nothing wrong with the new one, but it's doesn't have the symbolism of the components of the Joan of Arc logo.
Right. The profile pic was what I meant. Good point on the lack of words. Though they could, if they wanted to, just put "Athletica" beneath. Probably not the new logo, though, you're right.
True, I remember commenting on this at one of the Eads Brigade meetings because it was very reflective of the top of the Eads logo.
OK, some mod can just red card me now. It may be a good idea. I got retweeted some item on MLS Rumors that says this will be the logo of St. Louis' new men's team. http://www.mls-rumors.net/ Again, my apologies for what's likely useless garbage, but at the least it gets me curious. The men's team is having their unveiling soon, aren't they?
Yes, the unveiling is Tuesday. But that is the Athletica Secondary logo. MLS-Rumors creates their own rumors sometimes.
The only reason I can see them changing their logo is that it is so close to Scott Gallagher's logo, but I'm not sure if that was done on purpose or not.
I'm pretty sure it was done on purpose (and I know Gallagher uses the logo, but I think officially it's SLSU's logo). Remember, the Athletica logo as we now see it is actually the second version. The first version, from back when the team was just called "St. Louis" (instead of "Saint Louis Athletica"): I'm pretty sure the decision to make a Joan of Arc counterpart logo to St. Louis was deliberate.
Okay, that makes sense then. I wasn't sure what was going on with that. I know that I got a bit confused every time I saw the logo i would think it was for the Athletica but it was really SG. I really like the logo with Joan of Arc compared to the original one since the new one has more detail and whatnot.
*yuk* I hope they don`t change their logo. It is the only one I like among the WPS teams. I may be a Euro snob when it comes to these things though. High school themes ("Go-go-tiger cats yeehaa" *chirp*) or business themes which better fit an airline than a pro sports team simply and downright disgust me.
I love the new logo, and I would just hope that if they do change it they would just add a little more contrast between the Athletica and SLSG logos to make it less confusing. I'm sure if I confuse the SLSG logo as the Athletica logo it is the same the other way around...
What new logo? MLS-Rumors posted an OLD Athletica logo. The new men's logo won't be revealed until Tuesday.
You know, I'm really starting to think that the simplified or as some are calling it, the second or alternate logo, is going to be the official logo for 2010. Everything they are putting out, including Christmas cards, does not have the Joan of Arc crest that has been considered the Athletica logo since late 2008. I'm wondering that when designing the new AC Saint Louis logo and they decided to go with a bold, but simple logo, if they didn't also decide to change the Athletica to the more simplified logo. Personally, I prefer the Joan of Arc logo.
Moment of silence for the Joan of Arc crest..... It's dead. They are phasing it out to make the logo look more like the AC one. The main reason was that the old logo looked too much like SLSG and some people were not supporting the club (and I assume buying merch because thats going along with it). I'm not a happy camper... I love that logo, it was the best in the league and they get rid of it for that?!? Ugh. Oh and I know this because I boke down and talked to someone that works for the team.
I actually liked your guy's Joan of Arc logo. I thought it had culture. It didn't look bland or all-encompasing. It was unique.
Actually, when you think about it, they made their logo look more like the Laclede's Army logo, except our logo is better than their new logo. Does this mean that the headless mannequin known as "Joanie" will get renamed?

You are so right. Best logo not only in all of US soccer but all of soccer anywhere I've seen but then again I don't really follow European club soccer. But I don't even see that logo on the Athletic site anymore. They couldn't have been so stupid as to dump the kick ass logo below.
