I dunno what to say I'm kinda suprised with a few of the results at the Monaco Award Ceromony which took place just this evening. -Europes Best player= Buffon: A bit of a surprise here to say the least cause "goalies don't often get this award" (i had to edit this post cause I just recently learned that Buffon is the first goalie to ever recieve this award) but he was a real decisive factor in Juve's success sooo congrats to him -Europes Best Goalie=Buffon: no surprise here.. -Best Defender=R.Carlos: gimme a break cause his approach to the game is the complete opposite of a 'real' defender and plus Real only won La Liga this year so I really don't think he should of recieved the award (speaking from a logical perspective) Nesta is the golden child and everyone knows it however I imagined that in the case that Nesta didn;t win it I would of seriously preffered someone like Maldini or Puyol to win...."real defenders people"! Best Forward=Ruud: Well sure he's really good, mind you more than 90% of his goals he owe's to ManU's midfield magic so I guess you could award the Deutchman for his excellent finishing but that doesn't neccessarily mean he possess' any of those rougue characteristics that is usually seen in the recepients of this prestigous award. Best Midfielder=Nedved: Well the guy just exploded this year and he is just a real joy to watch especially when he scores...a real workhorse and someone who can control, direct, and manage his power to the utmost efficiency. This year Nedved was the Juventus talisman and not the overrated ADP idiot. Golden Shoe Winner= Makaay: If there is anyone who deserves this more than Makaay, their not human because Makaay was not not only the top goalscorer but has also revolutionized what the world thought was a game that was based on physics and logic which is something that simply does not apply to Master Makaay! Almost all of his goals this year were spectacular and utterly magical as Makaay has grown as a player and inturn a real "nose for goal" (punn not intended but Makaay does have a large shnoze). Finally someone who really deserves this award and not some stupid real player... Finally if you direct yourselves to Uefa's "goal of the tournament page" at uefa.com you'll find Figo's goal against ManU in their first leg match where he lobs the ball around Barthez effortlesslty to make the Frenchman look like a real jackass. I can think of at least a dozen goals which completely surpass Figo's (debatable whether it was intentional or not) but this particular category was decided by online voters ..soo w/e. I'm proud to say that Maldini recieved the lifteime achievement award and I think Maldidni has made himself a legend in the world of soccer, the very definition of loyalty, courage, determination, and grace; an easy reason for anyone to be a Milan fan.
The only thing I can think of that happened is that Maldini and Nesta took votes away from each other and thus Roberto Carlos won. But anyone who watched Nesta and Maldini play last night in Monte Carlo know who the best defenders are.
