can anyone tell me more about this player? i saw him play against america and was somewhat impressed but i would like to know if this was just a good game or if he has real potential to play outside colombia
Re: nelson rivas What impressed you about his play? I personally don't see much to him as a player. He's a player that has struggled to hold onto a regular starting spot on Dep. Cali's defense. In fact last semester, he was probably more on the bench than on the field. There's not much more, or much less to him of what was evidenced last game. He's your tall defender that clears the ball from your zone, may go up and attack on occassion for a corner kick but that is it.
Re: nelson rivas For a guy who is a marginal player in your eyes he must be doing something right. Any time a player is included in his national team it demonstrates he has done something to warrant a call up. Weather it is his potential or his preformances in the league, this player is one to keep an eye on. Not saying he is a huge star in the making but indeed is a solid player and one who may be able to contribute to colombia in the future
Re: nelson rivas dude the colombian national team is a joke.... look at the team Rueda called up and then look at the forum colombians abroad... we have like 15+ players in argentina and 1000x better players than what he called and he doesnt call them... we had the best defender and goalie in mexico and they dont get called up !!! we dont even no who half the players on the team r... when Colombia gets owned today and Rueda gets fired then come back here and talk to us about this guy.... it just makes me mad colombia use to be such a strong team... Pibe was good but he couldnt have made that big of a diff... Arg lost Maradona and there still amazing... Colombia needs a new coach AND A a better Fed.. we have players but no one picks them... we have a guy in inter milan who the italians want on there national team and he never even got a youth call up. We lost Vonlathen who is now a starter for switzerland... also the goalie he picked Viafara is on the worst team in Colombia America de Cali who keeps getting owned... so its like WTF is he on the team... if he starts omg... i dont even want to think about it.

Re: nelson rivas You can be a great goalkeeper and have your team and defense struggle around you. Sometimes those situations highlight a keepers skills because they are given (or forced) more opportunities to stop shots. Thomas Sorenson was relegated with Sunderland a few years back and stayed Denmark's keeper. Paul Robinson was relegated with Leeds but never lost his place as England's No.1 either. I haven't had a chance to see Viafara play this season but I'd certainly not discount him just because he plays for America.

Re: Nelson Rivas de River al Inter (r) once again, I disagree, Rivas at Genoa would be superb, he would be a starter at every game...Inter is packed with too many starters, it would hurt Rivas's chances of shining. He is 25 remember, not a young prospect. I do not think it is a bad idea.

Mas bien es mejor para uno que juegue en un equipo 'menos' porque no llega a la selección nada mas por ser jugador del inter... como lo hace Burdisso en Argentina. Ademas de que con el Genoa jugaría mas regularmente como ya se dijo.
Re: Nelson Rivas de River al Inter (r) no veo la razon de votar una oportunidad de jugar en el primer equipo de cualquier equipo...y si lo puede hacer en el inter con el tiempo entonces porque no pero con su manera de pensar, mejor que ninguino de nuestros jugadores lleguen a un equipo grande con eso pueden jugar con mas frequencia con el equipo nacional yo prefiero que rivas practique y juegue con jugadores como ibrahimovic o viera al nivel mas alto de la vida con eso esta mejor preparado si un dia lo llaman para jugar con la seleccion

Re: Nelson Rivas de River al Inter (r) bueno, la verdad para acabar con el tema...me parece mejor que se quede y por mi parte seria una lastima que vaya al genoa....la calidad de jugadores que estan y vienen al inter este año no se puede comparar con lo que tiene el genoa.....estar en un ambiente competitivo con unos de los mejores del mundo tambien lo hace a uno mejor...este es mi punto de vista....si te acostumbras a perder, pues bueno...se vuelve realidad... aun todavia, creo que todo esto es prematuro puesto a que se supone que viene ricardo carvhalo al inter y siendo que rivas tiene unas caracteristicas con jugadores como john terry (mi comparacion de antes, cabezea bien, es fisico, tiene bien movimiento) le haria buen compañero.... ya se habla de la salida de burdisso y ahora quien sabe que pase con materazzi puesto que no le fue bien en la eurocopa....samuel apenas viene de su lesion cuando empieze la serie a y lo mismo que cordoba a quien van a poner al lado de el posible fichaje de carvalho....especialmente cuando mourinho habla de deco, lampard y quaresma (en el genoa, esta calidad...nunca) que dice ser los unicos fichajes que quiere hacer...es decir, trae a un equipo de problemas defensivos solamente a un defensa y se salen dos (burdisso y materazzi) pero bueno si se va, se va....por lo menos tiene un scudetto mas que todos los del plantel del river plate que tambien lo puso por debajo
