Looks like World Cup in the winter 2022 in Qatar. Although not 100% confirmed yet it looks like the decision is made. http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1674525/fifa-insists-no-decision-made-yet-2022-world-cup?cc=5901
IIRC there was this very funny quote from some poster over in USMNT: News and Analysis when the aftermath meltdown talk was held about Qatar getting the bid to host 2022 over us in the U.S. getting the bid. He/she stated---"I sure would hate to be a Jewish alchoholic lesbian soccer fanatic traveling to support my nation at the World Cup in Qatar!" HAHA!!!
That's bad, but still doesn't beat one of teammates in high school. In the final of a freshman tournament we went to pk's. He tried to get tricky and hit it with the outside of his boot. It never crossed the end line, it went out the sideline.
In case you youngsters have never seen or just heard of the 1981 movie Victory or Escape to Victory as it was titled outside of the United States, it was for guys my age the only footy we saw on a screen as kids and it my sound corny but the flick did in a way keep soccer going in our minds even when the NASL collapsed there in '84. I mean who didn't want to beat the Nazis a la Indiana Jones round that same era of action movies. And of course Stallone of Rocky glory at that time and a certain man simply called Pele. Here is the original trailer:
you know the match that was based on-The famous Death Match-is being redone into a movie with the same name, due out next year. Gerard Butler has signed on to play the keeper. Funny-he has this thing about playing keepers in soccer movies.
another weird note......sly came out long ago and said that while playing keeper for the movie, he broke his hand while stopping (attempting) a Pele goal. He says that he knew these guys were athletes but gave them no real respect as to their strength. He changed his mind after filming this movie. The story goes Pele told him exactly where the ball was gonna go, kicked it, and Sly didn't even react because it flew past him so fast. Other times the ball went threw the net and broke windows behind the set. After numerous kicks, Sly finally gets the courage to stop the ball, and because Pele was nailing them in the exact spot every time, Sly was able to get his hand on the ball. He ends up with a broken hand.
I read that report on Sly trying to be brave in front of goal on the set of Victory. Saw it on Monday morn. That is why I posted the trailer bro. Good stuff 7.
From the world of Colombian football and clash of colors for the shirts of both teams there is this story. http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1...te-santa-fe-forced-don-replica-shirts?cc=5901
On AXS channel tonight there will be a live interview with U.S. Captain Clint Dempsey. Show airs live at 9:00PM central time.
Apparently, soccer in the US is not very popular at all, and is losing quite a bit of popularity according to this Harris Poll. http://deadspin.com/football-still-really-freaking-popular-1509795727 It's at 2%, which is down nearly half from 4% in 2010.
One of the MLS forums touched on the poll . . . it is statistically not accurate (methodology is no good). So I wouldn't worry about it too much.
222nd Merseyside Derby on tomorrow at 2pm on NBCSN. Throw form out the window when these two meet. I'm confident that I have a bit of a cough coming on and will have to excuse myself from work in time to watch this one. That or hopefully the roads are all frozen and I won't be able to make it in anyway.
