Done. Edit: Cosmos is in first place. 4 points ahead of the second placed team. I'm assuming that gap will close but I would really like them to win this fall season.
State. It is the land-grant school for Indiana like Texas A&M, OK State, or LSU. Not having the state name causes a little confusion. Other similar schools like that are Rutgers, Auburn and Clemson. I think those are the only ones that don't have the state name other than a few of the historically black colleges that are part of the land-grant system. Whoops. I forgot Cornell. They are a weird hybrid. The schools of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine are public to meet the land-grant standards while the rest of the university is private.
that was the exact reason I asked-I thought Purdue was a state school but wanted to make sure because I honestly thought Clemson was a private school up until a few weeks ago. But I think you explained that to me years ago. Rutgers is THE state university of Jersey. Auburn and A&M have very similar origins as you pointed out. I don't think folks know how similar Va Tech and A&M are. in terms of their history and development. I thought Cornell was a SUNY school in its' entirety. I thought they were the only public Ivy school but I could be wrong on that.
It's a weird deal. The State of NY contracts with a few private universities to offer publicly funded colleges. Cornell has these: New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences New York State College of Human Ecology New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations New York State College of Veterinary Medicine Those are publicly funded and operated by Cornell on a contract basis but are not considered "state colleges" since they are operated outside the SUNY system. Faculty are employees of Cornell. Students are Cornell students but pay different tuition rates depending on their state of residence. Syracuse similarly had the New York State College of Forestry but it has since officially separated from Syracuse and is now part of SUNY. Alfred University has the New York State College of Ceramics. There are no public Ivy League colleges.
interesting break down-only NY could complicate something this much. I thought NY State College of Forestry got moved to Paul Smith College. True story-when I moved I found an old recruiting letter. Alfred was actively recruiting me out of HS for lax. The letter was signed by a grad assistant by the name of Joe Albierci who later went on to be the top assistant at Duke, split and went to Army as their Head Coach just before the Duke lacrosse scandal and later went on to be a Asst. with Team USA in 2010.
Looks like the NY Cosmos have just about wrapped up the Fall season. They have a 7 point lead with 3 games left to play. They can make it official this weekend. I posted an article in the Where are they now thread-that article has some very good quotes and points about the NASL split season experiment. The Atlanta coach is very candid about how jacked the system is.
So the Soccer Bowl teams will meet one week earlier in the final regular season game and scout each other out. Interesting.
I expected the guy to start yelling "SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!" and "Kid's seats are still FIVE BUCKS!"
And they've had since the 4th of July to sell tickets for this game. That's when Atlanta clinched hosting the final. They've been running this commercial this week still trying to promote the game.
The NY Cosmos won the 2014 Soccer Bowl. 2014 SOCCER BOWL Saturday, November 9 Atlanta Silverbacks 0-1 NY Cosmos The Carolina RailHawks won the Woosnam Cup for having the best overall regular season record. The Woosnam Cup is a new supporter organized award similar to the MLS Supporter Shield. NASL does not recognize the overall standings. 2013 Woosnam Cup final standings: TEAM GP W-D-L GD P Carolina 26 12-7-7 +10 43 Tampa Bay 26 10-8-8 +8 38 Atlanta 26 10-7-9 -3 37 Minnesota 26 10-4-12 -3 34 New York 14 9-4-1 +1031 Edmonton 26 6-12-8 0 30 San Antonio 26 9-3-14 -3 30 Ft. http://www.virginiacavalry.com/cavalry2015/ The Virginia Cavalry have delayed their start until 2015. They are planning to share a new stadium with a minor-league baseball team but that stadium construction has not begun yet. No word yet on whether or not the NASL will stick with the their 2014 planned schedule for not. They had planned to play a single round-robin season before the World Cup and then a double after. The winner of the first half would host the winner of the 2nd half in the Soccer Bowl next November. Virginia dropping out means they would have a 9 game first half and then an 18 game second half. NASL 2014 1) Atlanta Silverbacks 2) Carolina RailHawks 3) FC Edmonton 4) Ft. Lauderdale Strikers 5) Minnesota United 6) San Antonio Scorpions 7) Tampa Bay Rowdies 8) New York Cosmos 9) Indy Eleven 10) Ottawa Fury Joining in 2015: 11) Virginia Calvary 12) Oklahoma City FC 13) Jacksonville
While it's not NASL, it may be one day. Albuquerque are getting a pro team for the PDL. They will likely develop players for NASL, and MLS. http://www.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/news/2013/12/05/developmental-soccer-league-abq.html
The NASL has decided to go with a 9/18 split for the 2014 season. The Spring season will only be 9 games, then a break for entire World Cup, and then an 18 game fall season. That, of course, means that five teams will only get 4 home games before the break. The Spring season winner will still get to host the Soccer Bowl next November. http://www.nasl.com/index.php?id=3&newsid=6054 Opening weekend: Saturday April 12 Fort Lauderdale Strikers v. So they are going with a Opening and Closing structure to their regular season league play. I'm sure I've seen this before, but where? Oh that's right! Like 95% of domestic leagues in the Western Hemisphere specifically our border nation which has the most professional league in the Americas and as well the Argie Primera which has the most competative league in the Americas.
yah but at least they have some semblance of organization and balance-9 and 18 matches plus an uneven amount of home matches during each part of the season-and we thought it was unfair to give the SS to a team in MLS due to unbalanced schedules.
Oh no doubt it is off, just sayin' that they are doing a split season. And avoiding playing during the mundial. If you haven't noticed, and this goes for others not you amigo since you and I are MLS Day 1'ers, the suits that "run" pro men's soccer in our nation also work for the BCS college football set up. They find ways to make U.S. leagues run goofy and out of sync, perhaps going as far as to have a clock that runs down, go against FIFA rules and other fuked up ways to Americanize the beautiful game.
The 2014 NASL fall schedule is out: http://www.nasl.com/schedule They are starting the fall season on July 12 and playing until November 2.
