hey, it worked for Nery Castillo. i keed, i keed. :D Nery was actually born in Mexico to Uruguayan parents.

$20 bucks says CeltTexan would be the first in line for a Cabeza de Vaca movie. :D i keed, again.

i would actually be second in line cuz that's a great story. homie gets shipwrecked in Florida due to hurricane and then spends the next couple years wandering around the Gulf Coast, Texas and perhaps as far as Arizona before walking, yes walking all the way to Mexico City. that's a long-ass way and remember folks there weren't any Bucee's or Pemex stations along the way. sht i don't think i would survive a present-day car ride from Florida to Mexico City much less walking.

.....and don't forget his sidekick Esteban. sounds like Batman & Robin when you think about it.

actually he and Esteban were shipwrecked and washed ashore on what is today Galveston Island. Esteban hence is considered the first person of color in Texas.

You're right the wander around and make it to Mexico City. that is where I would make end the first movie.

Esteban and some priest then set off to El Norte to find Ciboloa, the mythical city of goald that they heard about it while wandering around). Cowhead says no dice-I'm going back to Spain, hence the reason why Steve and the drunk little Padre go back. Steve gets killed and Friar Tuck claims that he say Cibolo (mostly cuz he's dirtying his pants with the fear that same native americans that just killed steve are about to kill him). He returns to Mexico
to tell Viceroy Mendoza-yep there is a city of gold. The viceroy then decides on yet another expedition (this time to actually get the gold) headed up by Coronado (Antonio Banderas) and they send Friar Tuck back with him. End Part II.

They wander around El LLano Estacado and almost die until they realize that Cibolo were just some Navajo adobe mud shcks that looked gold at sunset. Our priest friend (the name slips my mind) leaves before Coronado is pissed enough to kill him. Enter our indian friend the Turk who then claims to know where there are cities of gold call Quievera. They wander around again and finally get to a small village. Coronado wonders where the gold is-Turko states "cities of gold-I thought you said mold". Coronado gets pissed and kills him.

Being the suave dude that he is-Coronado does not admit failure but returns to Mexico City claiming that he just claimed all the land of the American SW-including being the first European supposedly to see the Grand Canyon. End of the Movie III and the trilogy.

there you have the cliff notes version of this cool part of Texas History.

there is a really nifty Spanish flick called Cabeza DeVaca that came about about 15 years ago-real tough find though.

jajajajajajajajajajaja. have you taken your meds this morning?????? what's funny is that while i'm reading this, i'm imagining you in person telling me this with hand movements and the accent. :D

i like it, sounds like a road movie (slash) buddy-cop movie. you know the white guy (cow's head)/black guy (estaban) Lethal Weapon/Rush Hour formula. with estaban going on and on about "i'm too old for this sht". maybe Mel and Danny Glover will re-unite one more time for this one. Pesci can play the priest.

funny stuff-what do you mean hand movements? Am I one of those Seinfeld-esk hand gesturers?

I used to teach this story to my 7th graders this way-and yes the mismatched cop thing does work-they remember the details and the gist of the whole thing.

Middle school history teachers=glorified story tellers.

This story reminds me of why I miss the classroom-and then I see my wife's paycheck and I don't miss it so much.

My current job has much cooler stories-too bad I can't tell anyone, I could but they'd have to kill me.

the movie is alright.. also in the third movie Santi is going to play for Mexico.. if you read the bottom of the univision article, Danny Stepper, the movie producer confirms this..

    http://www.univision.com/content/content.jhtml?chid=5&schid=1330&secid=1339&cid=1149540

Also, the producer is actually thinking of a Gol 4 movie.. it's on the fourth slide where they state this..

A 4th one really? I hope not, unless its about his brother or something.

I didn't like the 2nd one, mostly because he became a jerk to the people who really helped him (glenn and roz).

I don't know what to expect for the 3rd. I hope its better than the 2nd, way better. The 2nd just didn't do it for me, the 1st one was great though.

I said the same thing, but in hindsight I believe it has to do with the progression of the character as he deals with the pressure of rising to fame and being in such a big club over such a short period of time. He has to grow up in this film, and I think the attitude is just due to growing pains of having to be an adult. By the end he did have to deal with his problems and sleep in his own bed. Also, I liked the side story of Gavin Harris and the way he tried coping with the reality of being an aging footballer.

I liked the first one and am looking forward to this one.

On a side note. Anyone ever see "A Shot at Glory" with Michael Keaton, Robert Duvall, and Ally McCoist?

I saw the first one on DVD from Blockbuster. I liked it so much I went online and watched the second one. No need now months later to go pay to see it in theatres. It was pretty good too but not as good as the first.

    ****Possible SPOILER***-

Beckham plays a huge role in the ending.

Just watched it. It was better than what I thought it would be. Keaton actually had a decent role and Duval was great. I won't ruin it but I liked the ending.

where the hell is this thing playing? I searched only found one place in Pasadena-and then I go to their site and it's not there. Anyone see it here in Houston and where did you see it and more importantly when?
