Will NASL eventually take over D2? USL dies out, and concentrates on D3 + PDL? Is that pretty much the fate?
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? Definitely a possibility. NASL has all but 3 D2 teams in it's camp, so USL has some ground to make up if they want to stay in the D2 business next year. Of course everything is contingent on the USSF sanctioning NASL as a D2 league moving forward.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? I would think so; USL needs new teams to even add weight to an already lop-sided prediction. The NASL has a majority backing for well-established teams who are wanting to compete under the NASL, not the USL. Many of the teams wouldn't want to associate themselves with the USL ever again. If the NASL continues to announce expansions to US soccer, it already indicates that they are planning well ahead of this season and show confidence within the decision of the USSF to sanction them as the D2 league. Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? with Timbers moving to MLS, there will only be two teams from USL in D2. And I have no clue what the Aztex and Islanders will do, USL2 doesn't seem like an option, since both would drastically increase the travel demands of D3. It would be nice if they went into NASL, and USL started creating regional D3 leagues. existing USL 2 is essentially an atlantic league, a west coast league is feasible in the long term. That's just what i would think would be an ideal evolution for USL.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? Maybe USL can survive, the way thiing are going with MLS, it may fold, and NASL will replace the MLS and USL can be second division soccer... Maybe even start using the P/R word... It seem possible, MLS folds and the USSF will put NASL in its place... Then the US could have a real soccer league with real transfers and real players and real entertainment.. (cough and pro/rel cough)
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? Which is...NASL taking over D2? USL surviving? It would seem to me that given the stance of NASL clubs with regard to the USL, and the realities of regional travel for the smaller D3 and development teams, that NASL becoming the sanctioned D2 and USL becoming a group of regional D3 and Development leagues is a reasonable guess as to an outcome. It's really been moving that way for awhile anyway...big PDL numbers, slowly shrinking USL1 and USL2. Maybe you end up with MLS (D1), NASL (D2), USL (nationwide D3) and the PDL (regional D3 or D4). Much better than the alternative that has one or more of those leagues folding outright.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? My hope is that all of the D-2 teams will be in one league for 2011, be it the NASL or the USL (my money's on the NASL, though). USL would probably be better off cutting their losses with D-2 (USL-1), and sticking with USL-2 and the PDL. If I were the NASL, I wouldn't charge $750,000 for a new franchise, but rather somewhere around $50,000-100,000, then make the letter of credit be around $500,000, to still keep the cheapskates out. Still cheaper than USL-1 is/was.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? Franchise fee? Is NASL a franchise? or is it more like membership fee if there's fee? Do you know how much?
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? I think USSF and i hope CSA will have something put together By th end of this season Right now the current set up for this year is good. Vancouver and Portland are moving on the MLS, so the pro reg thing wont come no time soon. If i was MLS i would adopt some of the teams to make a second division or take one of the two eith USL or NASL and designate it as the Second Division and if a formulala for P/R with conference Champions and Playoffs can be worked out.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? To be honest i think out of the two Leagues NASL or USL is who is wiling to cooperate with MLS and USSF to a extent. I dont beleive USL as a league is ready to be big time. They dont present themselves as anything big or attractive to the masses, i mean look at the Atlanta Silverbacks( when they was in USL). i hope the Silver backs have better Marketing going into 2011 season. Overall USL now days has More to Prove than the NASL.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? Haven't heard. But if I were them, I'd keep the franchise/expansion/membership fee down, and instead focus on the letter of credit. That way, if the ownership bails, there will be enough money for the league to keep the team intact, and keep it from becoming a glorified amateur/beer league team until the season ends. Either way, the ownership will have to have enough money to stay in the league, or else they'll be gone. hopefully, the NASL won't let just anybody in.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? Cooperating as a Second Division.. If anyone wants to get anything done like Promotion/relegation for example Folks have to find their role and adjust to that role.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? It is a second division. Best cooperation between D1 an D2 would be pro/rel system. I hope to see that in the future.
Re: Will NASL eventually take over D2? thats what I meant But the individual team mainly Vancouver Portland montreal are striving to be in MLS(Van nad POR already got expansion) but , from MLS end I dont think there is such comprise yet. some Body needs to man up, Really the Ball is on MLS court, they are dictating the Pace of American soccer. Also P/R must be be a good sell, not lke how they do in europe, there is not good incentive on how they do P/R.
Sorry, we will only allow one smack talk/debate/nanna-bobo thread regarding this subject. Feel free to vote though.
I'm hoping that they'll perhaps work out a compromise that puts both the NASL and the USL in the mix. If both leagues could come up with eight viable teams, maybe there could be some moving around to allow each league to be somewhat regional, and have the league champs play for the national D2 championship. Everybody has been hatin' on the USL so much, we really don't know if they've cleaned up their act, redone their model, or what. I'm not sure I'm ready to kick the USL to the curb just yet.
Sure anything is possible. But with the venom between the USL and several of the NASL teams, I seriously doubt we will ever see any kind of peaceful-regional-league transfer.
Probably true, but I still hold out hope that they will somehow make nice, and at least work in parallel rather than perpendicular.
