http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1881327 May 22nd is the second round, when USL and NASL enter. http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Lamar-Hunt-U-S-Open-Cup/2012/01/2012-Open-Cup.aspx Who will go the furthest?
Rowdies, duh. Actually, it's probably a crap shoot as to which side if any of us will make a run. Although Minnesota keeping the majority of their championship team intact probably gives them an edge. It'll depend alot on the draw in round three for those teams that advance this far. Get lucky and draw a mid or lower tier MLS team and you've got a pretty good shot, especially if they send the scrubs. But the fact that teams are pair geographically seems a little lame. For the Florida teams, that means a very limited number of MLS teams, doesn't it? Do we know which pool each teams actually fall into? Although I shouldn't complain, the closet MLS sides are D.C. United, the Crew, Dallas. Much rather face any of them than Seattle, L.A., New York, etc. Will be interesting to see what semi-pro team we get in the 2nd round. Can be some tough ones in there and no one should be looking past them. I hope the early rounds are streamed again so we can have some watch parties. Or better yet, road trip.
My only problem with the format is that D2/D3 teams won't be able to play each other unless the both defeat MLS sides in round 3 and then match up in round 4. So it's unlikely FTL/TB would match up with Orlando. Lame. Dig the draw for the host team in the first 5 rounds though.
Ok looking at the NASL Schedule The 6 American teams play May 19th, then they play the Open cup May 22nd, then play again May 26. (SA the 27th). Those that won their second round game will then play MLS teams on May 29th, play again June 2nd (ATL 3rd). If anyone survived their 3rd round match they would play again June 5th. Any American team that makes it to the 4th round would have to play 6 games in 17-18 days. "The opening portion of the U.S. Open Cup schedule will occur in rapid fashion as the first four rounds take place in back-to-back weeks from May 15 to June 5. The quarterfinals are set for June 26, the semifinals for July 10, and the final for Aug. 7 or 8. The majority of the tournament will have only a minimal overlap with CONCACAF Champions League play. " Also good luck to PRI in the CFU and to Edmonton in the C.C.
That's the downside to the new Cup format. They are squeezing it into such a small window that the teams which advance will end up having played a ton of games in a very, very short amount of time. That isn't good for the game, ticket sales or any other factors.
So Rowdies/Atlanta/Strikers/Scorpions could play Laredo Heat, El Paso Patriots, Mississippi Brilla or Orlando City U23s. Not sure who the USSA or NPSL will send. Thats not been decided yet, right?
Yes only PDL is know right now as far as I know. BTW is there a way you could fix the poll? taking away the Islanders and Edmonton.

CFU well only wikipedia as a source, and other Bigsoccer threads. http://www.caribbeanfootballunion.org/home/competitions.html
Vancouver Whitecaps FC beat FC Edmonton 3:1 and advance on a 5:1 aggregate. They will face Toronto FC in the final.
So first round of USOC starts tomorrow! Not only am I excited to see which teams will advance to play our sides in the second round, but then they'll also draw the potential third round matchups so we'll see what lies ahead if we make it to round 3. Very exciting!
Good, you will own up to your prediction. Unlike many posters here who run with tails between their legs when their predictions are wrong (e.g. those who said the usa league would close the gap on Mex league).
