Buried in this article from the Orlando Sentinel (and re-posted on today’s MLS newsfeed) was mention that ifOrlandocan’t get its stadium act together the MLS will look toAtlantaorNashvilleto establish a southeast presence. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/politics/os-orlando-soccer-stadium-20130428,0,1909889.story BS I say. A few of us know all too well that Nashvegas is not likely to support a First Division team. Anyone missing our Fourth Division Metros yet? Who is that, you say? They only existed for better than 20 years until new crappy local ownership ran the club into the ground.
I have a feeling (and it's just a feeling) that Rawlins put another southeastern city in his email pitch as part of his call to action merely because of its geography rather than any legitimate expectation of anything happening in Nashville.
That's funny Rawlins mentions Nashville. Makes you wonder why he chose to hold up that market instead of something more realistic like North Carolina. Good to know our mere presence makes us an expansion threat! When Peter Wilt is done with his Indianapolis project, someone hire him to move down to Music City.
Well there is some news around Nashville.... I may try to make Monday's meeting. http://www.nashvillefc.net/ All those interested in playing and/or supporting this "grass roots" club, be at Bar Louie in The Gulch, downtown Nashville, on May 13, 2013 at 7pm <<<
Well, it would definitely make travel easier for the away team. Looks like if they flew into town, they could LITERALLY walk from the terminal to the game...
Metros are basically dead, sadly. New NPSL team - Nashville Atlas, and possible a second, Nashville FC (fan owned project). Rumors of a USL D3 team are sprouting up though.
As long as Martin is involved in Metros I say good riddance. Atlas is confirmed for NPSL 2014, but sadly NFC didn't make the cut. Still a lot of grassroots enthusiasm for NFC, so maybe into the NPSL in a year or so to replace (or hopefully compete with a la United-City, Celtic-Rangers derbies) Atlas.
