I think MLS in Nashville is nothing but a pipe dream. I'd be thrilled with the Metros back in the second division. They drew fairly well in the old A-League days. But if they insist on loyalty to the USL for some reason, third division USL Pro is the best they'll do.
USL 2 would be great. Then I could win the powerball, find some other rich people to front the deal and life would be good.
You would need $600 million minimum to take a run at MLS. Minimum. I'd probably look to build a small SSS near 65 with real team headquarters, fields, etc.
More signs of life. Former US Olympians join Nashville Metros 12/15/2011 The highlights are Desmond Armstrong is hired as GM, Brent Goulet as technical director, and that the team aspires to one day be more than what they are. Article says the two were introduced at a press conference in downtown Nashville on 12/20. But I can find nothing on this on their website or on a quick Google search. Anyone else know anything?
Moving back up that is. They were a second division club in the A-League from 1997 through 2001 before dropping back down to PDL. They were never the same after that. What will always be a hinderance is facilities. To move up a division or two would probably require meeting a minimum stadium requirement which they certainly do not now where they are.
For some reason I decided to take a look at the Metros website to see if there was any news. (I know, I know, what a strange idea.) It seems they did not renew their ownership of the domain and someone else swept it up. For whatever moves they plan to make in the near future, this isn't a good start.
Well, I was about to report that the website of the new Panama City Beach Pirates had the Nashville Metros off the list of Southeast Division teams, assuming they would move to another division. Now this. Well, shit.
Although it makes sense, [citation needed] Keep in mind, the fact that they have disappeared off the face of the Earth is a total mystery. Their website has been usurped. Their Facebook hasn't been active since 2010. This is indeed more than strange, especially considering they are one of the more popular teams in the PDL.
I don't know where you get that idea. Oldest? Yes. One of the most popular? Not for a long time. Sadly this wouldn't be the first time the Metros lost their domain name. When I first took on the job of webmaster for the club back in 2001 someone didn't renew the nashvillemetros.com domain name unbeknownst to me. That's when I had to get the nashvillemetrossoccer.com that had been used since then. It would appear that it took only three years after I left that gig for them to lose it again.
Titanole, do you still know anyone that works at the club? This is just either incredibly careless or foreshadowing something none of us want to consider...
Based on what? Are they selling a lot of replica shirts we don't know about? Attendance averages for Nashville since re-joining the PDL in 2002: 1996...938 (4th in league) 2002...531 (10th) 2003...838 (7th) 2004...607 (11th) 2005...307 (31st) 2006...392 (21st) 2007...361 (28th) 2008...308 (36th) 2009...181 (52nd) 2010...215 (46th) 2011...290 (29th)
My experience the past two years going to games - those numbers are calculated geometrically. Maybe 100.
He was at both games I went to, and I spoke to him and Lynn Agee. Good guys. The club needs new life, I hope Des and Brent can bring that.
He was at the few games in the past couple seasons I went to (admittedly fewer than I used to), but IIRC the last time I saw the website Devinder was missing from the staff page. I don't know how involved he is anymore. I suspect he and Lynn, while both probably still owners, are both more or less figureheads these days. I just sent an email to both of them. We'll see what I get back.
Heard back from both Devinder and Lynn. Neither were aware of the situation. They have contacted someone on the management team to look into it. On the plus side, they didn't say that it was because they were chucking it in. It seems it was just an oversight, a lot like what happened back in 2001. Whoever was the webmaster and responsible for renewing the domain didn't notify anyone about it and some guy in Taiwan swept it up. (He still owns it thinking they will pay to get it back.) I think they probably made a similar change and the renewal notice didn't get where it needed to go.
Oh, yeah? Well this Taiwan guy doesn't know who he's messing with! Available DNs... NashvilleMetrosFC.com NashvilleMetrosSC.com NSHMetros.com MetrosSoccer.com TennesseeRhythm.com However NashvilleMLS.com is taken... Sorry.
I know. When I was the webmaster I used to check it every year to see if he had given up. Whenever I saw that he had renewed it I laughed. He was just wasting his money. Still is. He's had it for ten years now and just renewed it again this past November. I just checked on the nashvillemetrossoccer.com domain and it is unavailable. It looks like it is still registered to the club but expired on January 11. I hope that means it can't be taken by anyone else in the meantime while they get it renewed.
