didn't quite know where to post this but it seems fitting here... anyone know (or read) of any well written books about Napoli? I'm looking for some historical books (in either language) as I am a history buff--concerning the city, its people, its culture....any ideas or suggestions? thanks in advance!
I was going to be a historian til I decided I didn't want to live on the government cheese. I'm assuming you've read Gommorrah so I'd suggest [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0231133715/tag=alternatico07"]The Broken Fountain[/ame] and The Bourbons of Naples. The first one is a better read but I know all you Napoli fans want to kneel to a Spanish king and it is a classic so I threw it in there. I used to have a great "coffee table book" of black and white photos of Napolitani kids and general people just going about their ordinary lives. It's probably in a box somewhere. Some really great photos in that one. Wish I could remember the name.
Thanks Nicky...the 2nd one sounds more like something I'd read, the first too, but not exactly what I'm aiming at... is there anything that goes back beyond the Bourbons reign though??? I'd like something that transitions from ancient to modern history.... great suggestions though...
Nothing I have read first-hand and could really recommend. I'm sure there are some great books on Pompeii, though, or on Tiberius swimming around on Capri with little boys kissing his privates and such. That's more a Roman thing, though...

dude you should be a italian historian. what do you actually do for a living, if you already do something similar already? and i just relised mike 'the situation' from jersey shore has the same surname as my nonna, so now crsito and him could be , and who is a fan of the cake boss? he's from new jersey correct? i love that show, he wouldn't be napolitan by any chance, looks more like a sicilian though....
actually serious question this seems the most approiate thread to post on aabout this, but why is it that people with the name ciro are only from naples i have never understood this...? is it because we have our own language? I tried doing some research on it but failed
