Locomotive sounds lame to me. I'd go with simply Terminus FC. Or if they have to attach a location to it... Southern Terminus or Terminus Atlanta.
I really like the name Atlanta Flames, if possible, using the old NHL Atlanta Flames logo. The colors are same/very similar. Even though MLS has the Chicago Fire, the name Flames has both sports history and actual American history (Sherman's l'il march back in the 1860's).
Atlanta Empire FC is a proposed name that serves this purpose. Georgia is known as the Empire State of the South for the reason that Atlanta is the most influential city in the region. Also, it's clean and simple. And I've asked a lot of random people what name they like best, and Empire was very popular. Honestly, I think Atlanta Empire could sneak in as the favorite.
Yes! I do like Empire --- a lot. It sounds a little pretentious. It sounds a little elitist and has a little bit of a "look at me" overtone but that's exactly the imagine ATL has always portrayed to this fellow Southern!
The more I think about that and that's exactly why I LOVE it. Phoenix, Resurgens, Rising, Firebirds have the right idea of saying look at us and how we have rebuilt... But it's still kind of borderline negative. Empire is a straight cocky response that say what you will, but we're the shit. I think that's what Atlanta needs... A strong response that we aren't just the kid who got knocked down and back up... But we are a beast to be reckon with. And we're united. In short, it takes a lot of confidence to name your team, Empire, but that's what I want. I don't want an apologetic team looking for recognition... And I love the fact that it is a way to take in the whole south and embraces that we are the capital of the south. Very strong name. Atlanta Empire FC "team of the south" coming in 2017, united, and ready to divide and conquer. Woo!
well if the silverbacks stadium was about 12,000 more seats and its ownership could pay the 70-100 million then they would be in MLS.
Well they don't have the money, ownership, infrastructure, stadium, and support for MLS. So it is MLS not wanting to have anything to do with them. The Silverbacks have mentioned moving down to USL-Pro to be a MLS affiliate as an option. That seems to be the most likely option unless the team sells and moves. I still expect pro soccer to be at Silverbacks Park though since it would be a nice location for a USL team for Atlanta MLS.
I hope they do the USL/MLS affiliate route... With the stadium being downtown, the silverbacks would be a nice option for those who are in Gwinnett and also those who are Silverbacks faithful.... This way fans can feel alright supporting both teams too.
My Favorites: Olympique Atlanta (Yes in french because it sounds better!) Atlanta Condors Atlanta FC (Why the heck not?) Club Deportivo Atlanta Delta FC
Olympic has been my favorite name. Also, I like Centennial. But, we aren't getting any of those. I do want to be called a S.C.
I hope that we are NOT called SC so we aren't confused with South Carolina. Atlanta SC just doesn't look right.
Eh - what's in a name? I am a big fan of the FC - Clean and Simple. But they indeed do play or will play "association football" yes - called soccer here.
Just think of the mass confusion that will happen if the team is called Atlanta Phoenix S.C.? People won't know if the team is in Georgia, Arizona or South. Carolina. Really?
