You are saying as if you know very well about Qatar league. Truth is, you don't. There are number of ex-European based players in Qatar and some European teams check them occasionally as many of them often comes back Europe after failing to adjust their life. As Nam is in the best team of Qatar he has some chance to get another chance in Europe after few impressive seasons. Everything is up to Nam.

Neither do you. And I seriously don't give a fcuk about Qatar. What you say about scouting ex-european players is true. Even though NTH technically is an ex-european player. He wasn't even the slightest established. Noone know who this guy is. And because he's noname noone will care about him except Koreans.

If a european team wants a korean player they scout in the K-league. They don't even look for our players in the J-league. But what matters the most though is if they do well in the NT. But I don't even see him being called as long as his in Qatar. LJS was already established in our NT and therefor still gets called up even though he plays in Qatar.

    And you do?

It's called a retirement home. The clubs in that league barely even play; check out their fixture list...

If play time was a concern his agent could have picked a few other leagues/teams preferably Holland but surely he could have gone to Switzerland, Austria, or Belgium.

Qatar is a one way ticket to the boneyard.
I read recently of an Argie that was signed, showed up, and left the club in a matter of days. Just get out of there, he's not doing his NT career any favors.

Yup. Either this is an overly elaborate route to PSG (which I really, really doubt for the reason below), or at this point, does poorly enough that they're willing to go to the k-league for a nominal sum.

I doubt the PSG angle... I suspect the manager of the Qatari club as a former VAFC guy was watching the games and found out he was available and put in the fee.

At this point, I'm not even concerned about the NT. He needs to get his career anywhere but here.

EDIT: I think the decision to go to Qatar was somewhat forced by the club once it was clear that NTH was not going to stay. The rumored fee of 1.7M seems large to me... I am guessing that the Qatari manager was able to pry a larger fee than market value for his friends or on their recommendation that probably scared away any other club for an unproven player.

Choi Gang-hee has mentioned a number of times already (even before he was appointed) that neither Nam Tae-hee nor Son Heung-min should be playing for the national team.

They should not be on in their current shapes.

And I doubt he will be more appropriate after a year in qatar even if he gets free.

going to qatar isnt a death sentence its just what he has to do to play. hes only 20 so hes not going to spend the next 8 years in qatar...

he can still be called up for the U-23 side.

either case this is a curious situation.

does anyone know the person that did the full length interview with NTH for footKorean.net (the other site) when it was up?

that reporter should drop NTH a line to see what's up!

There has NEVER been a KOrean player who has gone to Qatar and then went on to a flourishing career anywhere, let alone Europe.

    It's not even Saudi Arabia.

This is major FAIL no matter how you look at it. If he wanted playing time, he could have gone down to second divisions somwhere or come back to K-League.

There's some weird things going on. Maybe he has to make money for family. Maybe he has injury issues and thinks he can't play normal life span of footballer?? It's a mystery, makes no sense.

This is my suspected order of things.

    1. NTH wanted out.

    2. He probably said it out loud after the last match in the locker room or in such a way that his transfer was required.

    3. VAFC quickly called around to gauge offers.

    4. Qatar's manager saw that he was available, knew how much potential he had (being a former VAFC guy, he prob kept tabs on the goings on based on his historical acquisitions), and offered more than market.

    5. VAFC rejected all other offers.

    6. NTH eager to get out, allowed the transfer to go through knowing that nobody was going to pony up close to what Qatar offered.

    7. NTH proceeds to play into obsolescence.

during his first season he played few times at the beginning of the season but was kept on the shelf...understandable.

think the following season was when his coach got canned and he was put back on the shelf but good part of the season he started many games filling in for the injured starter and was praised for his efforts...

come this season, the more of the same bs coming in as a sub to kill time and this i thinkg pissed him off...again, understandable.

makes sense, but the last one...well, never say never.

the only thing that might get him out of the desert is to score like 20+ goals in one season:D

I agree. He proved himself to be good L1 calibre last season. And he was still the first or second sub the vast majority of matches so he's doing that some of his KPA compatriots.

Just got impatient it seems and tried to force his hand... and got bit by Qatari money.

I actually do... but you play with transfer fire and you could get burned by large Qatari wallets (i.e. outbidding everyone else).

I don't think he's headless but he's not going to get called up now between his age and no pressure to be called up from sponsors / european bias and the fact that he'll be rotting out where nobody will see him.
