Might as well have a single thread to cover events from NK. Though this threat can be pretty ominous. http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/23/world/asia/north-korea-threats/index.html?hpt=hp_t3 There is really only 1 way NK can do this in 3 or 4 mins and that is with a nuke. Now will they actually do that? I would hope not, but I am not putting anything past them. But even if they don't go that extreme, even making such a threat is serious and shouldn't be ignored.
North Korea relies HEAVILY on Chinese aid, approval, and cover for it's actions and threats. This "attack" just isn't going to happen. Believe it or not, most ordinary, under-30 Chinese laugh at North Korea's political moves and are abhorred by their own government's wavering support for it's regime. One thing that the CCP cares about more than North Korea is China's never-ending growth and stability. If North Korea threatens that in any way, I believe the CCP can and will institute regime change.
They will spend $45 million on the celebration and fireworks display for the 100th anniversary of their communist founder, to then let their own citizens starve to death in the countryside regions cuz they won't purchase Chinese grain. Take from that what you will. Imho, it appears that their leadership gives little care to their own population thus threats to destroy another's ought to be taken at face value. They are so far off their rocker they just might pull some stunt on the South.
TOKYO (AP) — Analysts who have studied photos of a half-dozen ominous new North Korean missiles showcased recently at a lavish military parade say they were fakes, and not very convincing ones, casting further doubt on the country’s claims of military prowess. Since its recent rocket launch failure, Pyongyang’s top military leaders have made several boastful statements about its weapons capabilities. ... But the weapons displayed April 15 appear to be a mishmash of liquid-fuel and solid-fuel components that could never fly together. Undulating casings on the missiles suggest the metal is too thin to withstand flight. Each missile was slightly different from the others, even though all were supposedly the same make. They don’t even fit the launchers they were carried on. “There is no doubt that these missiles were mock-ups,” Markus Schiller and Robert Schmucker, of Germany’s Schmucker Technologie, wrote in a paper posted recently on the website Armscontrolwonk.com that listed those discrepancies. “It remains unknown if they were designed this way to confuse foreign analysts, or if the designers simply did some sloppy work.” Confuse foreign analysts into thinking what ?
This was brought up in the other thread concerning the launch by NK, the US and Japan agree to a deal to move 9000 Marines from Okinawa. http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/27/world/asia/japan-us-okinawa/index.html?hpt=hp_t3#0_undefined,0_
Send them on a wild goose chase with different missile designs, like a defense faking a blitz on base D, or a baseball team throwing fake signs. Though I do agree with the article's author that these were probably just shoddily made replicas for the 100th birthday celebration.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...korea-boatsbre84g08m-20120516,0,3757285.story NK is proving itself to be a problem even to its ally. I wonder how long China will suffer this incident?
It'll be interesting to see NK's reaction to these exercises by SK and the US. http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/06/22/u-s-south-korea-put-on-massive-military-drill/?hpt=hp_t2

Too bad how the North Korean people will probably starve more now, as a result of this satellite launch.
