Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? Heard Kenny Cooper's brother was at the tournament now that you mention it...
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? He is not Cobi Jones.....he's a better Justin Mapp or worse Denilson (the one in MLS last yr not the one curently in Europe). All dribble no substance. A choke in front of the net. Was given every oportunity by Barca to succeed only to have Bojan rise from the bench and supplant him. There are many good prospects that arent discovered by the US youth system. Politics and whims play to much a role. Plus you got Sarachan as the lead talent evaluator who drafted the like of Leonard Griffin, Jack Stewart and Scott Buette.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? Gio Dos Santos is being written off as a Cobi Jones at age 18? That's ridiculous. How many 18 year olds can say they are even part of the rotation at a club like Barcelona? I'm sure the kid will do just fine.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? Cobi Jones could have . Oh, and Claudio Reyna turned down an offer from Barcelona to go back to college for another year. I don't know anything about Dos Santos, though, so this reply is pretty pointless.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? How did a thread about a mystery American kid at Newcastle turn into a discussion of Gio's development at Barcelona? There's a real mystery for you. One thing is clear, Euro teams are going to be scouting these US youth tournaments a lot more heavily in the years to come. There's going to be an increasing number of US kids going abroad (not necessarily England due to WP issues). Of course, I don't know about all the child-labor laws mumbo jumbo.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? You only need a work permit if you're going to work, kids can sign for academies.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? I wont say Gio is the most overrated... he is 18, but has not justified any of the hype... it wouldnt be a big deal except he thinks he is living up to the hype, according to reports... and Bojan is playing like a King and Nery may be the Prince, but Vela will be their King
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? couldn't agree more with this post. repped. saw a few la liga games this season, and Vela had clearly IMPRESSED me. if you put this kid in the Barca squad, he'll be amazing.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? Maybe the British tabloids just got it a little mixed up. Wise was really in the US scouting Mo Edu at the Olympic Qualifiers for a summer transfer? (probably not)
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? Hes overrated. Hes at Barca ...so what. Spector was at Man u and hes not the next Rio yet and Howard isnt Schmeichel yet. Landon won the golden (or silver)boot too at a youth WC and never materialized into Hagi. Dos Santos was given every opportunity to succeed. Not good enough but Bojan is. The attitude seems to come from his father...he talks out of his a@@. Hes Brazilian but talks like a Mexican fan/player. Im tellinh you Dos is a Mexican Justin Mapp.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? Ahh, except the article said an American player and we all know Santiago never got his citizenship and plays for Mexico in the third movie.
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? fine, ignore my post. how'bout this, http://www.dallassoccernews.com/article.php?article_id=1279
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? did my post say that he was great because he was at Barca? what my post said is that he is 18... and cant be overrated because he is still just a kid... he hasnt looked great, but most 18 year olds dont... ur post is making crazy comparisons and generalizations... I dont even know why I replied to this... repped, thanks...
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? That's quite a story. He's about to become the youngest Yank Abroad...
Re: Mystery American at Newcastle? Emerson is about to step into the exclusive Adu/Renken level of hype.
Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle http://dallassoccernews.com/article.php?article_id=1279 Mystery no more. dfwtinman and Bignard may have a better scouting report. He turns 12 in April He is Schellas's gandson. Schellas is SMU's head soccer coach and candidate for FCD Technical Director
Re: Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle Is this really a good step for the kid? I mean, when I think of Newcastle I think of a team that has spent tens (hundreds?) of millions of pounds over the last 10-15 years and won nothing. Is their underachieving also reflected in their youth system? Which top notch players have they produced? Paul Gascoigne, ok. But they also rejected Alan Shearer as a youngster. Anyone I'm missing? It just seems to me that if he's going to leave home at such an early age it might be a better idea to hold out for a better offer. But then again I'm not privy to the ones he's received so far.
Re: Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle Call me clueless, but does he have access to an EU passport? (He doesn't need one until (if) he turns pro, but I'm just wondering).
Re: Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle Do you need a EU passport to be signed to an academy? I'm sure this is a family commitment issue as either one or both will move to England. Kind of like the Milan offer to Adu when he was 11.
Re: Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle Maybe through his great grandfather http://smumustangs.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/hyndman_schellas00.html
Re: Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle Not for academy (i'm pretty sure) but for pro deal he would need one.
Re: Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle Is this level of hype normal for Dallassoccernews.com or is this kid THAT good?
Re: Emerson Hyndman to Newcastle everything is subjective but how many EPL teams signs American 11 year olds. If you ask people here in NTX, yes, he's that good. There is no mistaken he looks 11.
