Interesting issue with iTunes and I know there's got to be a better way to do it: I have a ton of live concerts on CD that I want to put on my iPod as a single show. Yet, iTunes keeps thinking each CD is an entirely seperate CD. As such, I have to go through each one, re-naming it AND re-naming the tracks on the second CD to be "at the end" of the first CD. What iTunes wants: 10/27/2009 D1 (track 1 of 1) 10/27/2009 D1 (track 2 of 4) 10/27/2009 D1 (track 3 of 4) 10/27/2009 D1 (track 4 of 4) 10/27/2009 D2 (track 1 of 3) 10/27/2009 D2 (track 2 of 3) 10/27/2009 D2 (track 3 of 3) Obviously, D1 and D2 would be two seperate "albums" under the artist's category, whereas I want it as one single album. I'd have to remove the "D1" and "D2" AND go back through to make the tracks "1 of 30" instead of "1 of 15" on Disc 1 AND "1 of 15" on Disc 1 What I want: 10/27/2009 (track 1 of 6) 10/27/2009 (track 2 of 6) 10/27/2009 (track 3 of 6) 10/27/2009 (track 4 of 6) 10/27/2009 (track 5 of 6) 10/27/2009 (track 6 of 6) Anyway to set iTunes up to do this automatically, or must I go through each song individually?
I'm not entirely sure what you want. You can combine several songs (usually songs by distinct artists) by telling iTunes that it's dealing with a compilation. But I guess that's not what you're looking for. If I understand you correctly, you have several CDs from one artist that should be combined into one album? Anyway, if it's not a compilation, you need the same Album and Artist name for all your songs on your CDs. Next you can not only specify the track number (e.g. track 1 of 4) but also the disc number (e.g. CD 1 of 2). In your case, just select all D1 tracks for example, right click on them and click on "Information" (at least that's what it's called on the Mac, not sure about Windows), there you can change the details/tags for all selected tracks. In this case, you want to rename the Album ("10/27/2009 D1" to "10/27/2009") and you insert a CD number (e.g. 1 of 2). Then you do the same with the second disc. You end result should be: 10/27/2009 (track 1 of 4) (CD 1 of 2) 10/27/2009 (track 2 of 4) (CD 1 of 2) 10/27/2009 (track 3 of 4) (CD 1 of 2) 10/27/2009 (track 4 of 4) (CD 1 of 2) 10/27/2009 (track 1 of 3) (CD 2 of 2) 10/27/2009 (track 2 of 3) (CD 2 of 2) 10/27/2009 (track 3 of 3) (CD 2 of 2) This disc by disc approach makes it much easier than going through it song by song. Now, I'm sure that when you import the CD, you can already fill in these things correctly, so that you don't have to do any adjustments afterwards. But I've never done that, so I guess you just need to play around a little in order to find out how exactly...but you should definitely be able to tag everything before importing.
not that it matters, but i refuse to deal with iTunes. i'm sure it's 90% positive, but it's Apple's version of a Microsoft strangle hold.
Yeah, I can see why. You *must* download *our* format on *our* software.. that does sound a bit like MS. Even though you don't HAVE to put iTunes songs on your iPod, yeah, I know exactly what you say. I wish I could remember where I saw it, but I saw a comparison of "Apple then" vs "Apple now." Back then, it was all about being anti-Big Brother, and being different. The author of the post I read was saying that Apple has done a complete about-face with what they used to be and how "then Apple" would never agree to DRM and whatnot.
I basically only use it to put music on my ipod, and that even though I don't have winamp since I use a mac (winamp is like the coolest program ever made, still). I basically listen less to music because of that, or more to vinyl and internet radios than mp3s.
I really like iTunes. It's a great way to organize your albums. But since I hate the clutter with single mp3s, I also use VLC. But I mostly use iTunes for organizing and listening to Podcasts though. That alone is absolutely worth it.
Next question, and i'll just put it here: On an iPod Touch, when i'm running an app which is playing music, is there any way to go back to the home screen without stopping the music?
