Let's all get muppety again.

So, this thread is to add and discuss players who could contribute to the first xi or the squad while being available for a "value" price because of some contractual situation.


I will kick-start this thread with a couple of players


1. Demba Ba

Estimated value = 7M pounds (buy-out clause in contract)

Squad role (replacing Berba)

Pros = League proven, suited for both a 4-4-2 or a variant of 4-5-1, should be happy with a squad role.

Cons = Dodgy knees, not extremely productive, ANC



2. Shinji Kagawa

Estimate value = 10-15M (contract runs in 2013)

Squad/first xi role (replacing Park/Giggs)

Pros = young enough to mature into a top-tier talent, Japanese (commercial gains)

Cons = not suited to 4-4-2 , transition from Bundesliga to the Premiership might be an issue

Junior Hoilett

Estimated Value = £10m

Role = Squaddie, Poor Man's Hazard

Pros = Quick, Tricky, Creative

Cons = Doesn't score as much as he should but that should improve with better players around him

Why would we need Hoilett, isnt Young Park replacement or 3rd/4th choice winger or we have decided to gather squad players for fun, we need players who could be first choice, we have a big squad as it is.

Demba Ba, dont need either, we cant give Berbatov a game as it is.

Moussa Dembele, 10 m I think, a dribbler in the centre, keeps possesion and has played in a 442 and with Murphy of all people.

I dont think its that we cant get him a game, its that we probably do not prefer to because of the other options are just way better for us. If Berbatov could offer more than he does when called upon, then he would play.

SAF always loves to have 4 strikers at least, and they all usually get games.

While we'll all like to see an elite wing-forward like Hazard signed, we have to be real and accept that Ferguson probably isn't going to let go of the Young-Nani-Valencia safety-blanket just yet.

Hoilett would be someone who we won't need to displace someone else for. If we're going to continue to sign projects I'd rather they be young, quick, tricky and difficult for the opposition to deal with.

If we can pay 7m for Bebe we can sign Hoilett for free.

The way SZ talks about the numbers of our squad, he makes it seem like an 18 man squad is good enough going into a 58+ game season.

We are weak at LB not Rb by the way, we have 4 strikers plus Owen, 5 Cbs, 4 wingers, if we consider Rafael our 1st choice Rb then we have Jones smalling and Fabio to play there.
We have enough depth except mid and adding players good enough for firts team adds depth on their own.

Dembele and Kagawa are good shouts. If we could cut wages of Ando, Berbatov and Park, we'd really freshen up the squad and save a good deal in salary, freeing up cash to go after a Sahin or a Hazard as the added creative outlet.

We'd have to make do with Roon, Dan, Cheech, Owen and kids at FW but that's fine.

Rafa as starting RB is a bit of a question mark for me at this stage. If he can make it back to his previous form, and avoid injury, then fine. But its not a 100% deal that he will. And Evra is a question mark for obvious reasons. So thats two question marks, Fabs and then people out of position.

I would agree with James, a fullback is a high priority.

Need to buy a CM first, 2 if we sell Ando.

Do you see Hazard working well in CM with Carrick in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1?

Wouldn't play Hazard anywhere centrally in the prem until he's played 2-3 years in the league.

4. Alan Dzagoev

Estimated value = 5-10M pounds (contract expires end of Dec 2012)

First-team role (replacing Giggs/Scholes)

Pros = Young, can play centrally

Cons = Transition from Russian league to the premiership, Russians players have generally struggled outside Russia as well.

Maybe stud can give us a progress report on him? He's always been one thats highly rated. But I havent heard much from him lately. Does he start for Russia>?
