    Hi there,
Are you from Thailand? I saw the match between the Sriwijaya FC Vs Muongthong UNited. And I am impressed with a couple of players, Kawin and Panrit.

    Match Report

    AFC Champions League Qualifying Match
    [IMG] vs. [IMG]

    Sriwijaya 2 - 2 Muangthong Utd (7-6 on pen.)

I had a chance to see this game broadcast live at the Thunderdome in Muang Thong Thani, since MTU had to play the game away in Indonesia. The turnout was about 300-ish people. It was a very thrilling match, and one that really could have gone either way a number of times.

You can get a play-by-play report at the AFC website here:
    http://www.the-afc.com/en/tournamen...s-league/33213-sriwijaya-v-muang-thong-united

It was a thrilling game to watch live. (Although I can definitely think of a better ending...) One thing we have to keep in mind is that this was still pre-season for MTU. The Qilins have a lot of new players who haven't yet had a lot of chances to play together. On the other hand you have Sriwijaya who are in the middle of their season and are familiar with each other.

This isn't to excuse the result. I think MTU had a plethora of chances in the beginning of the first half, towards the end of the second half, and in overtime to steal the win. Unfortunately for MTU, Sriwijaya played some good counter attacks and kept possession really well.

As far as players go, Dangda and Tongklao's goals were excellent. Christian got shut down a lot on the attack, to the credit of the Sriwijaya defense. Kallio kept getting turned around by the Sriwijaya strikers, but this was his first game with the club and I suspect he'll become a strong contributer. Panupong's ejection was a huge disappointment, but you do have to get the ball when you slide tackle...

So at least we can look forward to the AFC Cup again this year!

I'm from the US, and yes, Kawin is amazing. Those penalty shot saves against Sriwijaya FC were just quality.

I've only been in Thailand for a couple of years and just started following the TPL this last season. MTU is the closest team to me, so I felt it was just natural to cheer for them. I had been folowing Bangkok Glass before I mentioned to my Thai friend that I wanted to cheer on the "home" team. They corrected me, haha. Even so, BG is still my number 2 team, regardless of the rivalry.

You should support TOT since they seem more than happy to forever share your stadium.

How do you think you will get on this season? Many changes, and Rene now moved to Chiang Mai.

Haha... Can I get away with a 'no comment'? The finished Yamaha stadium is beautiful. I really hope they can keep it nice looking. Greg over at The Thunderdome blog had an article mentioning the situation:
    http://muangthongunitedfc.blogspot.com/2011/02/in-good-hands.html

I hope they can move on soon, as their stadium seems to be finished. On the plus side, it's one away game that'll be easy to get to.

I'd say a good move by Chiang Mai. All I know about Carlos is what I've read and heard from others (I know some people who knew him at BG and they aren't too sure about him...) I'd rather judge him by how he fares this season. He seems to know what's excepted and has appologized for the recent form of the team. That's a good sign.

As for how they'll do this season, they're going up against some good teams who know each other and haven't made too many changes. I'd say it will depend on how fast they can mesh as a team. They have good players, they just need to learn to play effectively with each other. I think if and how fast they can do that will make or break this year.

    Match Report (Friendly)

    [IMG] vs. [IMG]

Samut Songkhram FC 1 - 2 Muangthong Utd

MTU won their friendly match away against Samut Songkhram yesterday. This looks promising, although I don't know how talented "The Mackerel" are. Here is the article from the O.S. (Thai):http://www.mtutd.tv/NewsDetail.asp?id=2046

As far as I can tell, Christian scored both goals for the Qilins.

Samut Songkhram have always been a solid team especially at home, but this pre season most of the players and coach went to Chanthaburi, a big falling out behind the scenes took place and the team is steadily rebuilding.

English translation of the match report from the Samut Songkhram friendly is up: http://www.mtutd.tv/NewsDetail_e.asp?id=2046

    Some things are more clear:
1st goal (MTU) - 49' Christian, assisted by a cross from the right from Dangda.
2nd goal (MTU) - 65' Christian, assisted off of a backheel pass from Siaka. Wish I could have seen that!

3rd goal (SSFC) - "In the last minutes" Barbosa scored for the 'Pla-Too'.

It has been reported that MTU has released Carlos Carvalho as manager. You can read about it here:http://muangthongunitedfc.blogspot.com/2011/02/adeus-carlito.html

This is quite sudden, and I don't know too much about Carlos, but I trust it is in the best interest for the team. Hopefully they can find a replacement quickly and have a strong start to the TPL season.

The new 2011 uniforms are up on the MTU website:

The new jerseys don't diverge too much from what they had last year, which is a good thing. It seems that the alternates are now black with red piping instead of black with white, which makes sense. I haven't seen a picture of the white kit yet. But it's simple and classy. I like it.

Thai Premier League - Match 1
    [IMG] vs. [IMG]
    Bangkok Glass F.C. 0 - 0 Muangthong Utd.

The atmosphere at the game was great! The home and away sections were full to the brim. Getting tickets was a bit hectic, but we managed.

The game was pretty equal. In the first half, Bangkok Glass tested Kawin only a few times. There was only one really dangerous play from inside the box from BG's Japanese midfielder Takizawa, but the shot was deflected for a corner kick.

Muangthong had numerous chances, but none of the shots found their mark. There was a chaotic scramble in front of BG's goal after a free kick bounced and hit the post, but the subsequent header went wide.

The second half saw more possession from MTU. United unfortunately couldn't convert their possession to goals, and toward the end of the match both Sylla for BG and Datsakorn for MTU saw red following a tussle at midfield. In the dying minutes of the match BG pressed well for the winning goal and had numerous corners, but MTU held on for the point.

MTU will be happy to have broken their losing streak at Leo Stadium and should be pleased to share points away to one of the top 4 teams in the league.

Overall, I thought MTU maintained possession well throughout the game, and only had a few scares on defense. With a little more accuracy in front of the net, the game realistically could have ended BG 0-2 MTU.

It is true, that was a great goal! Christian was moving the ball so well in the second half and creating so many dangerous plays! I felt sure he would get another before full time. I hope he carries that form into this Saturday's match at Army United.
