Do you have one? I do. In fact, I have a couple. During a game this year against a team that lacked fitness and didn't win a game all season, I managed to screw up in the first couple of minutes in the game. My other striker crossed the ball to me, I beat the goalkeeper and took a shot. I was at least a metre away from an open goal with no goalkeeper and it went over. I couldn't believe it. We all had a laugh about it after the game. If you have had an embarrassing moment during a game. Post it here.
We were 1 goal away from a shut out on a tournament. I received a through ball and dribbled past the keeper. The field was wet so I slid and managed to hit the ball it was going towards goal but the thing is I barely got a feel on it so a defender came in and cleared it out.
Ouch, that happened to my friend as well. Felt so sorry for him. Another embarrassing moment for me was when I was jogging back after I took a shot at goal and the goalkeeper saved it. I looked into the crowd and saw a girl that I really liked watching me. She giggled, laughed and waved to me. As soon as I waved to her, I happened to trip over a rock and fall right on my ass. Out of the corner of my eye, she gave me a look of sympathy and walked off.
Happened a few weeks ago. I'm a GK. Throw in deep for the other team. It bounces in front of a huge mass of players so I stay on my line because I'm sure someone's going to get a touch. Instead, it bounces over them and hits the post, bounces back, hits me on the back of the leg and goes in for an own goal. We lost 0-1.
Mine actually happened today. I was playing indoor football in Columbus Ohio. I play a very physical game so I tried to check the guy into the wall. He jumped back and I went shoulder first into the wall.
Last game of the season a couple moths ago. I play keeper and was having a great game. We were down 1-0 and I had made about 15 saves. I thought we could get the equalizer on a quick break so I was playing quick restarts. One of my players lost it in the midfield and the other team got it and dribbled into the box and got a pointblank shot off, but I parried it wide for a corner. It was coldy and extremely windy. They took the corner I cam for the punch but the wind took the ball and went goalwards. I punched the ball bc it was going in either way but punched it right above my post defenders head. Nothing I could do about it. The goal was going to happen either way, but basically I scored the winner for them.
This is an old thread, but it'd be interesting to revive...During a showcase tournament in my U16 year we were playing against the #1 team in Georgia and I embarassed myself in front of a few prospective coaches. I received the ball near the center circle (I'm a center-mid) and I didn't have anybody within 20 yards of me. I rolled over the ball, accidentally put too much pressure on it and ended up flipping backwards and landing on my back hard in front of everybody. Worst feeling I've ever had, but it was something to laugh about after the game.
I had a similar situation last season. My other winger had the goalie coming out to him and I took my place in front of the goal with the next defender 10 yards or so away. He crossed the ball for an easy tap in, but I mis-struck the ball as it bounced and it went sailing over the crossbar. I was more pissed than embarrassed.
while coaching, I"m screaming my head off about something and I take a step back and one of the kids had left their ball right behind me. I wiped out, feet in the air. Needless to say the kids MUST line their bags up in a neat line on the sideline and ALL balls must be neatly behind their bags or in their bags. I also don't yell much any more.
I got a good one. I was 12 years old. Some background: the ref of the game was the father of the star of the first place team. We had beat them pretty bad the week before. However, we were in second place, because we had to forfeit two games because half our team (myself included) was playing football those weeks. Anyway, we are winning the game, nearing the end, and the girls teams that play after us start practicing (naturally, one of those girls teams was the one from my school). When the ref blew the whistle, he announced that they weren't going to have playoffs that season, even though we'd had them every other season. Presumably, we would have won, and his son's team would have lost (presumably, but we will never know...) My coach and the ref had some coarse words with one another. About that time, my dad overhears the commotion. My coach started to walk away, and the ref actually started to run at him! Well, of course, with my team, the opposing team, and two girls teams watching (not to mention all their parents), my dad tackles the ref, and holds him down, refusing to let him up until he calms down. My dad tackled the ref. In front of the girls team. Most embarassing moment. Maybe ever.
My most embarrassing moment during a game happened on Saturday against the team that's coming dead last. The referee blew his whistle and the game was under way. As soon as the other team kicked off, I took off like a rocket and went after the player with the ball like a lion hunting down a gazelle. I tackled my opponent to the ground and stole the ball off him. I made a break down the line and passed back to one of our other players. He toyed with the opposition for a little while and passed back to me. I didn't have time to trap the ball, so I had a crack and managed to score in the first minute. I was surprised that it went in and started celebrating with the bloke that set me up. We ran back to the half-way line and waited for everybody else, so we didn't acknowledge everybody giving us weird looks. Apparently, the goal was offside. Heavy days.
I'm not normally a goalkeeper, but in one of the rare games that I played in goal, I completely whiffed on a punt, which let a forward walk in and score into an empty net. But since no one's ever going to say I'm a good goalkeeper, the more embarrassing moment might be the "autogolazo" I scored once: mis-struck a ball and accidentally lobbed my own keeper from 40-50 yards out.
firstly the most embarrassing thing i evr sseen was from a teammate. He was barged by an opponent and somehow managed to fall on his head, at which point his momentum caused him to skid about a yard along the ground, on his head. Half the players were concerned, the other laughing, in the end there was nothing wrong with him, thinking back to that noise he made skidding along the ground, feet up in the air, still makes me laugh Most embarrassing thing that happened to me? playing football once in the evening without floodlights, with a lack of light my peripheral vision impaired, i failed to notice that as i was running to the touchline determined to keep a loose ball in play, there was a third goal net just outside the touchline, needless to say i ran straight into the net, which wiped me out by the face to add insult to injury. But at least, i did keep the ball in play.....
