Not sure if the same is posted elsewhere, with reference to the below article... http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/12/02/franklin-galaxy-may-be-las-top-pro-sports-team Just wondering, what is the highest number of major pro sports leagues titles (e.g. NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, etc...) that were concurrently held by the sports teams from the same city / state? Were there anything more than the 2 by L.A./California as of now? (i.e. L.A. Kings with Stanley Cup 2011-12 & L.A. Galaxy with MLS Cup 2012)
Found!! Yes, that would be Boston in 2004: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multip...ip_seasons#Multiple_championships_in_a_season The highest record is 4 by L.A. in 2002: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multip...mpionships_involving_other_professional_teams Time to update the page with L.A. Kings' Stanley Cup 2011-12 and L.A. Galaxy's MLS Cups in 2011 & 2012...
My dad calls 1969 "the year New York beat Baltimore." In the Super Bowl, the Jets beat the Colts, and in the World Series, the Mets beat the Orioles. Then the Knicks beat the Bullets in the playoffs to win the 1969-70 title. But by that point the Chiefs had won the Super Bowl, so New York only held two titles at any particular time. Still, I found that amusing.
Updated for L.A. in 2012: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multip...mpionships_involving_other_professional_teams The 2011 MLS Cup is not counted in this case, given that the Kings only won the NHL in May 2012 (Season 2011-12).
We may not have won all them but Philly is the only city to have played in the Stanley Cup, NBA Finals, World Series, and Super Bowl in the same year (1980). I think that should get an exception since this is Philly we are talking about.
Went to 4 finals, only won 2 though: 2007-08. That is if we're going by season and not calendar year.
Though not all from one city, 1989 was such a year for the Bay Area: the San Francisco 49ers won the Super Bowl in both January 1989 (1988 NFL season) and January 1990 (1989 NFL season), the San Francisco Giants won the NL Pennant, and the Oakland Athletics won both the AL Pennant and the MLB World Series. -G
Some don't recognize the Kings Stanley Cup due to the missed boarding call on Gionta just seconds before Bernier crushed our hopes and dreams. We want a replay of games 6 and 7. Until then, it's unofficial.
I would normally say that some in this case would apparently refer to whiny Devils fans, but as I don't recognize the legitimacy of the Steelers 5th Super bowl in 2006 for similar reasons I understand where you're coming from.
In 2001, the American top-level professional soccer league champions for both men (Quakes) and women (CyberRays) represented San Jose. http://www.metroactive.com/features/columns/silicon-alleys_20111012.html
