RIP Mr. Frank Borghi: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/02/03/11/33/150203-hof-gk-frank-borghi-passes-at-89
This is a pretty good account of the famous game in Belo Horizonte in 1950. A couple of slips: The U.S. team did not lose to England by 10-0 in a game played before it left for Brazil. The loss was by only 1-0. The opponent in that game, which was played at Randall's Island in New York, was an English national B team that had been sent on an American tour by the English FA (actually, the United States did once lose to England by 10-0 in New York, but that was in 1964). It is an exaggeration to say that nearly all of the American players were from Simpkins Ford of St. Louis. Of the 17 players on the U.S. roster at the 1950 World Cup, only five were from Simpkins. The percentage of Simpkins players was higher in the lineup that faced England in Belo Horizonte, 4 of 11. The others that day were two from New York, two from Philadelphia, two from Fall River, Mass., and one from a different St. Louis club. Sorry to nit-pick. This is a good story.
Thanks for your help mate, im writing a book on the most memorable games in the history of the World Cup, an will take this in account!
