i think what he is saying is that while the normans were still distinctive from (most of) the rest of france, they were also, by that stage, distinctive from their norse origins. their assimilation with other cultures had them well along a road to being french and away from being norse. it was their trait really. they just absorbed everyone else's traditions into their own, like a massive sponge.
plus france wasn't a single entity, politically.

ok, first up we have everton v liverpool.
a liverpool wins puts them top (for the time being).
an everton win puts them 2 points behind us, level with liverpool (for the time being).
a draw puts liverpool a point behind us and everton 4 points behind (for the time being).
so do we want a draw or an everton win?

    Vela scored 4 goals today.

    Turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 win.

all I know is that if any historian referred to Tanner Bill as 'French', he'd be pulled up for it pronto.

surely our standards at bigsoccer are just as rigorous, no? :p

While I'd like to see a draw, it's fun watching Sp*rs being Sp*rs this morning :)

You gotta love the intensity & urgency in the City-Spurs match. Plus Lloris's f-up in 13seconds which will most likely gift City the win. :D

Edit: But not Sandro puking on the pitch and then carrying on. But then again we all know AVB is not one to bring a player out too quickly. ;)

And Lloris basically gifts them a 2nd which yet another awful clearance. Too bad AVB is in love with him or else Friedel might be further cementing his EPL legendry.

This is the very same Spurs that some fans were praising this summer
for their amazing additions....Lamela, Eriksen, Soldado? No thanks!

Soldado has been disappointing this season, scored only 1 goal from open play.

City are going to be a problem if they manage to get that away form under control
