Montreal Impact name former Chicago Fire boss Frank Klopas as head coach MLSsoccer Wow he got three year deal.. Desperate times call for desperate measures Now MLS left with 2 teams needing coaches... Frank Klopas named Montreal Impact head coach NBCSports
That's pretty amazing Klopas turned around a got another job so fast, a coach/GM job at that! He must be a smooth talker!!!!
For those keeping track at home, this is the 15th manager at a Canadisn MLS team in 12 combined seasons
Unbelievable. Complete desperation. He finished below them in the standings last year, got fired, so now he's worth hiring and giving the whole shebang to? What is this, LigaMX, where the same 30 guys take turns coaching 18 teams?
January, 2013, Canadian head coaches: Toronto - Paul Mariner Vancouver - Martin Rennie Montreal - Frank Klopas January, 2014, Canadian head coaches: Toronto - Ryan Nelsen Vancouver - Carl Robinson Montreal - Marco Shallibaum It's a clean sweep!
I think some of the coaches are victims of unrealistic expectations. They're like Canadian versions of the MetroStars. They don't know when to let things build. I actually had hope for Vancouver.
In just the last 3 years, 21 coaches who have never been head coach in MLS before were brought in (Chelis, Luis Real, Berhalter, Schällibaum, Petke, Porter, Watson, Nelsen, Pareja, Marsch, Heaps, Hackworth, Mariner, Rennie, Klopas, Fraser, Spencer, Winter, Thodarson, de los Cobos, Robinson). I'm sorry, but you're barking up the wrong tree with this critique. Whether Montreal should have bent over backwards for specifically Klopas is a fair question, though.
Another try. January, 2013, Canadian head coaches: Toronto - Paul Mariner Vancouver - Martin Rennie Montreal - Marco Shallibaum January, 2014, Canadian head coaches: Toronto - Ryan Nelsen Vancouver - Carl Robinson Montreal - Frank Klopas It's a clean sweep!
Klopas is not an elite coach. Dumb move. Yallop is better and I only consider him barely above average
The point is that it resembles a Liga MX hire in which the only criteria involved seems to be having recently coached in the league. This isn't a young coach on the rise, he doesn't know the organization, and he isn't coming off of a successful season or stint at his previous team. This is the sort of hire a relegation-threatened team would make--only there's no relegation in MLS.
Let me phrase this a different way: December , 2012, Canadian head coaches: Toronto - Paul Mariner Vancouver - Martin Rennie Montreal - Jesse Marsh December, 2013, Canadian head coaches: Toronto - Ryan Nelsen Vancouver - Carl Robinson Montreal - Frank Klopas A coaching job is a most fragile thing.
You know it was trouble when the name plate on the manager's office was made out of that dry-erase board material.
Kansas City has had 4 full-time head coaches in 18 years: Ron Newman 96-99 Bob Gansler 99-06 Curt Onalfo 07-09 Peter Vermes 09-current and two interims: Brian Bliss (06) and Ken Fogerty (99). Montreal Impact has only played two seasons, they've just named their third head coach, with two more carrying the interim tag. Vancouver Whitecaps have played three seasons. They're on their third head coach with one interim. Toronto FC has played seven seasons. Six head coaches and two interims.
Same as Colorado (if you count Wegerle's one game as player/coach to wrap up the '96 season as an interim coach)
People have said time and again that there's just something deeply wrong with the Canadian soccer establishment. They're just all screwed up. You know what? There's something deeply wrong with the Canadian soccer establishment. They're just all screwed up.
Well I am not sure if the way the CSA and the way MLS Canada team run their organizations are related, but they sure look a lot alike.
We have a supporters General Assembly tonight at 7pm, and a press briefing at 6pm. So plenty of opportunity for journalists and fans to express their opinion. I am particularly looking forward to the large contingent of Ultras. Everyone knows they never have much to say.
