Seems that they were drawn against the afc champion, and will play chelsea if they advance. Big if.

Corinthians I think is the only other team qualified so far. Thoughts?

Monterrey if they actually grow some bawlz the best they can do is lose to chelsea, but it will probably go like last year and they will lose their first game and then win the consolation game.

Ugh, the AFC has been pwning us lately. And I've been watching the AFCCL, that tourney is growing way more than Concachampions is, which might actually be regressing.

Vuce better not screw it up, this will be this team's last hurrah together, since they will be dismantled soon.

African champions league in the semi final stage

As well as AFC after this game

Some nice goals in the African semi final. Wonder how badly these teams would beat teams like xelaju and atletico mazapan

So a fist shake is standard in Africa?

Really it is hard to tell how good a team if not playing quality opponents. Toronto looked like world beaters vs some C. American teams, but when they play a quality opponent it is painful to watch.

    And Monterrey's first opponent is...

Ulsan Hyundai (KOR), AFC champion after beating down Al Ahli 3-0.

I hope all these player movements aren't distracting the team. Cherokee, Cube, etc

They haven't been playing well for some time now. I doubt they'll even win the consolation.

leaving Reyna, Aldo out of form... Might as well have dismantled the team, would have made no difference IMO...

OTOH, they were in worse form last year and they only went out on penalties.

True. They played OK against the Xolos, well at least better than Toluca, whatever that's worth.

Not sure if this Japanese team is really bad or if Monterrey is just playing really well...

Really impressed today with Monterrey.. Imagine what they could do with Reyna and Suazo...

    Aldo useless as ever

If Corona keeps playing like this, he's gonna get looks from other clubs

Orozco se la comio, Robert Green style...

Monterrey's pressing game was very commendable, and they managed to dictate the tempo of the match the entire time. Most surprising to me was how Aldo de Nigris was a free-flowing threat on the offence: he didn't score, but assisted two goals and was a mind******** for the Korean defenders. Too bad about Jonathan Orozco; Hyundai's goal was partly his fault. He's gonna have to be more buzo if he expects his goal to remain virgin against Chelsea.

Speaking of the Europeans, I actually believe Monterrey has a chance, mainly due to the bad form of the Blues (last match nonwithstanding) and jet lag. They are not the favourites, of course, but I haven't seen a Mexican team start so strongly in this tournament since, well, ever. I think they are obligated to at least tie what Necaxa did in 2000.

Should have put some in the net the last 20mins of the first half and that own goal yikes. Although it was clear Chelsea was better a goal could have given them some confidence.
