He has definitely been my favorite of the "child" actors for much of the season. //Can Haley be called a child actor when neither the character or actress are a child?
Still love this show, but count me in amongst the people who have said that they are hitting the gay stereotypes button way too much this season. They used to be more creative in finding funny stuff for Cam and Mitchell.
Didn't really love the episode, but the "The Guy" exchange between Haley, Alex and Phil was pretty much worth the price of admission for me. It's simply funny by itself; but it's way more funny because of who the characters are.
I thought Alex was poor and out of character. She is far more independent than they portrayed her on the episode. I expected her to tell Phil how to fix the furnace and storm off.
If it has an instruction manual, or something she could find on the internet, then she would. But things like kissing, dating, etc. she is clueless. She has this science/engineer/math thing (think the class she took with Haley last season).
Teenage kids don't know anything about household maintenance. Alex is smart but she's not some kind of savant.
But that is what would make it funny. Cause she is that smart to be able to figure it out. Haley, though...clothes and stuff.
Good rebound show.. Haley - "Wait, I'm not going to be pretty in the future?" Phil - "Flipjacks" Luke - "Yes, of course" Classic...
The progressive insults / silent takes from the other restaurant customers was fantastic. Plus I just want to second the praise on the Popcakes v. Flipjacks.
I just realized that Modern Family often times works best with gags that might appear like low-hanging fruit. Like Cam (or was it Mitchell) saying they were bringing in the big guns a moment before opening the door to Gloria.
There are so many of those types of jokes - one could easily not catch them if you're not paying close attention - but when you do, its very gratifying and makes the joke so much better. Community pulls it off quite well too.
I don't think Community pulls it off quite as well. They want everything to appear to be "meta" and that can take away from the best and simplest humor at times.
