I will say I will be very disappointed if any of the columns on MLSNet.com don't address Peter Wilt's demotion. Paul
http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20050413&content_id=26537&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp Hidden in Greg Lalas's column about Mike Burns.
that was pretty tame i expect next to nothing on this from anything on mlsnet i expect next to nothing from the mlsnet writers with the other places they write expect next to nothing on every telecast... especially the one on fsc that will be airing the fire game... sure, they will mention that it occurred... but nothing more gw would be proud
FSC had 1 second on it during the DC/Pumas broadcast tonight.... Max Bretos basically said "what's with that surprise firing of Peter Wilt in Chicago....see them this weekend playing San Jose"....and that was it. I wouldn't expect more of the MLSnet writers, it's not like each and every one of them doesn't know who writes the checks. Due to his primary job being for an actual sport entity other than MLS, perhaps Bradley will be the most free to speak on the matter, but the other guys? Doubt it.
TCS mentions it once. That's it. And by 'once' I mean Like my parents used to say, I'm not mad, I'm just dissapointed.
Remember last year when Tim Hankinson wouldn't release Mastroeni early for the Grenada WCQ camp, and Arena released Wolff, Zavagnin, and Meola (who likely missed his last/best chance at a 100th cap). That Wednesday, HDNet broadcast Kansas City at Colorado. The "big story" was the spat between Hankinson and Arena. Glenn Davis and Colorado Rapids employee Marcelo Balboa briefly mentioned that some players were released from national team camp about halfway through the second half. That was it. They even interviewed Hankinson during halftime. No questions about the Arena flap. Nothing.
Maybe Grant Wahl will address it. He is less "beholden" to the league than some of the other so-called journalists.
http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20050414&content_id=26660&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp not true
Is this just conjecture by Tino that Peter Wilt could be working for a relocated MLS team in San Antonio? Or has Tino heard it thru reliable sources that such a move is in the works? Hmmm.
actually, I'm pleasantly surprised how much criticism of the league occurs in those columns-- still I won't be shocked if this turns out to be the exception.
Actually, if it were related to competitive practices, then I would agree. But I think there is an almost sanitized approach to criticizing the league. Don't get me wrong though. I understand why. You won't see my employer posting column that are critical of itself. Paul
No mention from Waldo or Hard C. Could they really have columns ready that far ahead of time? I doubt it, and none of the major columnists have really shied away from criticizing the league in the past...
Waldo's much too busy praising Mathis to have any time to discuss Wilt: Can't wait to see if Waldo continues in this vein on tomorrow's ESPN2 broadcast -- if we can't have Sean looking at Harksey with adoring eyes, Waldo's Cleetus worship might be the next best thing.
