You're making us well aware of that, thank you. And those of us who had the pleasure of watching the Champions In Waiting on TV on Saturday got to see an interesting graphic that ESPN threw up on the screen of the five or six best starts in league history. Here's a spoiler alert: Only one actually won the championship. Hell, the all-time best start in league history, the '96 Galaxy's 12-0 start, got them a bucket of jack squat. The Mutiny won the Supporters Shield (or would've, had it existed) and DC United, who finished 16-16, won MLS Cup. I'm sure that scaryice can tell us in a matter of minutes, thanks to the ClimbingTheLadder-a-tron 5000, who had the best record after five games in each of the last 16 seasons and how little it correlated with winning anything.
all of that is true and I realize that starting 5-0 doesn't predict any future out comes better than winning 5 straight games in the middle of the season. 15 points is 15 points no matter when you happen to win them. MLS 2012 does however happen to have an unbalanced schedule and a new-fangled playoff system that heavily rewards winners of conferences and supporters shields.
Ooff, calm down morry. I'm not big on superstition, but the overconfidence this early in the season is making me nervous.
Dear Oobers, What's wrong with a little exuberance early in the season for an unbeatable juggernaut of a team? What's the worst that could happen? Sincerely, The blue half of Manchester
...and here I was thinking this thread would die after three days of matches, but of course early Sunday morning I checked and it was still going strong. Before you know it, week 1 threads will be bumped.
