It's subtle, very subtle. They are hoping by implementing the changes little by little you won't notice that overall it is a big change.
This time the bottom reads "Insert snarky comment here". I think the web designers have been on Big Soccer and have read what we think of their site.
Ya think?! Pretty sure that ppl down at MLS HQ keep track of this and every supporters forum and other soccer websites in N. America. I did find it amusing when I first saw it, that is after I finished inserting my snarky comment. Ha, wait'll they see what I wrote there. That outta wake ppl up!!
Really sneaky, indeed. And (perhaps) that logo fits well with the "We'll Be Back Soon" language of the black screen placeholder.
They've added team logo icons and iCal links for each match and given the national tv info its own column (all nice improvements, imo) at the schedule link. http://www.mlssoccer.com/schedule Now, if they'd just set an auto-load scroll to the current date (as opposed to the month start) at that schedule link, that would also be an appreciated improvement, imo.
alas, there is still no 2012 transactions page 2011's dead link http://www.mlssoccer.com/season-transactions 2011-12 off-season http://www.mlssoccer.com/offseason-transactions/2011-12 and the FAQ page (which I discovered while trying to e-mail them about the transactions page) has sections that are over a year outdated (hope you catch the debut of Livestrong Sporting Park on June 9! You can also catch matches on Fox Soccer and Matchday Live) http://www.mlssoccer.com/about/faqs
Now I can't complain about them never changing anything. But I can complain about not being able to complain about them never changing anything!
My only rationalization for that was the fact that they always had expansion teams off away from the rest of the clubs. But it still does look weird out of order.
Thanks, I just wanted to see how long before someone said anything. Reordering it would have been waaay too much work and I was tired. It was just a bit of a lazy thing to do. Like I said before, they did say to insert a snarky comment. There you go.
Wait, you did that? I spent most of the day thinking the Cosmos logo was actually on the blackout page, since I wasn't around when it happened. Without seeing the page for yourself, the snarkiness can easily be mistaken for reality, and the very ambiguous comments up until this one didn't help.
Yeah, I know. I purposely didn't reply for awhile just bc of that. And, whether it was on purpose or not, most ppl didn't directly refer to the item leaving a reader who hadn't noticed the adjustment in the dark as to exactly what was out of place and why. I imagined some may have been confused.
Tonight, the pixels blur. Two nights in a row. They really don't like us "check MLSSoccer at 2am in the morning" types. Also, what's with all the little black circles across the team logos? I poked at them for five minutes but could never figure out what they did.
Another nice tweak, check out the standings page: PPG column, HGD and AGD columns, and a playoff seed divider line. Now all they really need on this page is the ability to sort by column.
yes, I noticed the HGD and AGD and playoff line today, but somehow missed the (most-useful) PPG column. and yes, sortable columns would be another improvement for which to hope. and they've apparently made that "Standings" page into a live table (which is nice) -- If they haven't done so, they should probably come up with a row or name highlighter (or something) as an indicator that some teams are playing games in progress.
One thing that I've been looking for but didn't see last I checked is a clean sheet stat for the keepers.
I like the new information in the standings, but I hate that they got rid of the information on home record vs road record. In the current format, you can't even see how many home vs road games have been played by a team.
agreed. And I'm not sure if "HG, HGD, RG and RGD" are a more-informative and better use of the space than were the previous colums for Home W-L-T and Away W-L-T.
You can find this under the "Season stats" page (off the Main stats page), either under the "Goalkeeping" option or the "Shutouts" option on the dropdown "Stat Type" menu
Just realized they also eliminated the "last 5 games results" portion of the standings as well, which I liked. I want the old format back, don't like the changes!
