Well here is the news that St. Louis has been dreading now for the past 6 months....We always knew that it would come down to them and us but with the recent approval of their stadium plans, it was the nail in our coffin. (For now) Congratulations to Philly, you deserve a team! SOB has been great! However, lets just hope we get announced as the next team...
Don't worry. There's no doubt you guys will be team 17 and I look foreward to our teams duking it out in the Eastern Conference Final!
I don't think anyone has been dreading this. It has been known for quite a while now and doesn't really affect our plans.
If anything I'm happy that this day has come both for Philly (as they do deserve a team) and happy that MLS is active again. Of course I am disappointed that it wasn't us but as I've said before, Philly's announcement makes space for us (or anyone else for that matter). Now it's just a matter of who's next.
No surprise here. Yes, Philly deserves congratulations on their new team. Now, if St. Louis gets shut out a third time (or fourth, if you count San Jose), MLS may wish to consider an alternate venue for the 2009 draft.
I really wish people would quit saying this. There was a time, when I had no doubt we'd be #15. MLS/Garber has no problem lying. I won't be surprised if we hear Garber start talking a lot about Miami, NY2, Montreal, very soon - if not today. True, but if we don't get announced by the All-Star game we are NEVER getting a team. If, when announcing Philly, he says the next team is not playing until 2011, I'm kicking his ass.
I can arrange an ass kicking line on the other side of the nut kicking line. Shoot, Lord Garber would appreciate the efficiency of it. In all seriousness a huge CONGRATS TO PHILLY. Couldn't be happier. I also agree with SB that the all-star game is the last chance. Next year's draft will either be a celebration or a disco-demolition night. Good news from Timmerman's blog. He stated today that Miami investors might have to get their act in gear by June to get their stadium approved. That would be tough to do, no?
Agree. Between now and the all star game I will be putting down a deposit on one of two things, season tickets or steel toe boots and a line ticket for the nut kicking.
The press conference is about to start and the official website is up at http://mlsphilly2010.com P.S. I already checked if there was a smiliar St. Louis site, but none found.
I missed most of what Garber said. Anything of note? Mostly just saying how great it is to be in Philly?
http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20080228&content_id=140965&vkey=pr_mls&fext=.jsp As evidenced by our patience in the case of Philadelphia, we will only expand when we believe the circumstances are right," Garber said. "We continue to seek the essential combination of strong ownership, an appropriate facility controlled by that ownership, and a market with a tradition of supporting the sport. St. Louis is one of the leading candidates we are considering and we are hopeful that all elements will come together soon for the city to join the League."
I haven't been able to access http://mlsphilly2010.com/ yet ... by the way, after today brief state of the league, I feel a little more confident about StL in Mls. So let's keep your heavy boots into the box and wait until All Star Game for our announcement ... and hope to be host to the 2009 Superdraft!
Your link worked fine for me ... but I don't want to wait for All-Star. I'll take a pre-season address announcement thank you.
Now I do admit I am happy for Philly, but this is kind of how I feel... http://www.metacafe.com/watch/27414/kicked_in_the_nuts/
I dont think we were going to have to wait to the all star break if its not before preseason. i think the last two expansion announcements have thrown out the idea that it will be clumped in with one of MLS already scheduled events. we are going to get our own separate announcement, much like Seattle and Philly's were on there own in the respective city. pretty soon i expect to here rumblings of St. Louis in the MLS then about two weeks later there will be an announcement of the announcement happening in St. Louis. personally i wouldn't mind if it wasn't until the summer so i would have an opportunity to be there.
