http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?5239-USL-Pro-Vancouver-closer-than-we-think Some news about potential Vancouver USL team. And some interesting remarks about Charleston...
I would have to say that sounds like avery good thing for the Whitecaps and soccer in Vancouver in general. Partnering with the Canucks in anyway is a nice backer to have. It has been rumored That the Canucks still would like to get the NBA team back in Vancouver and are possible rumererd buyers for the CFL BC Lions. The Flames LP are going that route adding more teams why not the Canucks.
Oh yes Braley has made a statement earlier that he would like to sell both the Argos and Lions within the next 3 seasons and retire. They are definitately available anytime for the right price and the right situation and I can't see a better wituation than the Canucks taking the Hockey Canadian Football opposite season synergy. Talk of an NBA franchise is realy not realistic at this time but the Lions are Canucks are looking to expand their sports operations. A USL Pro and a CFL franchise are much more inexpensive then an NBA team but still gives them alot of extra dates to cross promote the Canucks with those teams and vise versa. Skies the limit for the Lions with good marketing andsynergy to promote. They have the best football stadium in the CFL andVancouver and the BC province are the CFL's go to city when there are any Grey Cup issues.
The roster for the LA Galaxy 2 game tonight is up. Take a look: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/usl-la-galaxy-ii-thread.2000522/
Interesting the college players. Guess they're ending their college careers? Also it does appear the bulk of the team is actually still USL guys rather than loans from above or below. In fact they're only sending the minimum down. Wonder if that's because of who they're playing or because that's what they'll be doing on a regular basis.
They are probably trialists. Orlando has youth trialists all the time; we have three right now. As long as they don't sign a pro contract and get paid, they can play friendlies.
Are you sure? Thought the NCAA rules forbade them from playing with a pro team even if not being compensated.
If they're NCAA student-athletes with eligibility remaining....they won't have eligibility remaining. But Nick Shackleford was a senior in the fall of 2013. My guess is his eligibility is over. Alejandro Covarrubias was a junior at CSUDH in the fall of 2013, but is 22 and might, for all we know, have graduated and decided to turn pro. He was undrafted. Lee Nishanian was a senior at Cal State San Bernardino in the fall of 2013. Abraham Campos was also a senior at Incarnate Word in the fall of 2013. It appears as though three of the four may not have had eligibility to jeopardize. And Covarrubias may have just decided to go pro.
Ah see that's the information that was missing to make it make sense. No one listed their ages. If they're as old as you say then its obviously not a problem.
working relationships to benefit to both MLS and USL PRO http://www.newenglandsoccernews.com/leagues/usl2.php?article_id=11925
Weren't they on the schedule already as a reserve team? I mean I guess it's possible they just pull their reserve team games off if they partner. And if that's the case I wonder if the now league owned Chivas won't do the same thing with the Blues.
um no...maybe 2015??? http://www.bigdsoccer.com/2013/12/17/5221628/fc-dallas-will-not-field-a-usl-pro-team-in-2014
Affiliate is a different animal from fielding their own team. Affiliate would mean partnering with an existing USL squad, who is already on the schedule. In this case it would either be the Blues or Phoenix (since Charlotte is their own beast and everyone else has a dance partner). Unless they pull a Sacramento type double up, but that doesn't seem likely given the unique circumstances that led to Sac having two MLS affiliates.
That is a very good point about Chivas and the Rebrandeded Orange County now playing out of the U of Irvine soccer field or so I have read. Certainly with the league taking over Chivas it would be financialy beneficial to affiliate with a USL Pro team nearby instead of paying for their own reserve team. As for Dallas already pointed out Phoenix is the only other club left but I guess it could be done. Or as also mentioned possiblily doubling up with OKC this season with Dallas having its eyes possibally set on Tulsa for 2015.
So the Whitecaps loaned five guys to Charleston. One of them is Andrew Lewis. Isn't he the guy who was supposed to go to the Cosmos if he didn't stick in Vancouver? Wasn't that the whole kerfuffle?
