Last thread here...
Shalrie scored his first goal for Seattle:
Good result for both MLS teams last night in CCL play.
An owner who gets it.
But how do you KNOW that Bob Kraft wouldn't do this if he knew how to use a computer?
In all honesty and joking aside, I really have never expected Bob to be the face of the team in terms of connecting with the fans via modern means.
On the other hand, I think Sonny has failed miserably in this respect. He is young like Paulson and Heineman and should have become the true face of the franchise but all we have received from him over the years are horrible radio interviews where he almost apologizes for owning the team.
Philly Union take the next step in development process by building and stocking their own high scool. It is an impressive initiative and worth a read.
WOW I'm impressed! This might even be considered a possible 1st sign of MLS 4.0.
Yeah, I had to read that twice to make sure I absorbed it all. It is a fantastic undertaking and even out does the incredible training facility Toronto built imo (assuming they can make this High School work).
Seems like an unprecedented level of parity in MLS right now.
Only three points separate 5th place from 1st in the East, and only 5 points in the West.
Senior Director of Communications for the Fire put this out there ... oh my.
That was.......ahhh......holy smokes.
Wow did that ramble at best. I won't say the guy was drunk but jesus, be concise with a point would ya.
In the reddit AMA somebody a poster says "We have seen some pretty innovative ideas relating to sports events come out of Sporting Innovations, namely the app that allows replays on our mobile devices just minutes/seconds after the play". That seems like a great idea. Do the Revs have anything like this?
Some interesting items he commented on

What's the most rewarding part of your job as Sportings' CEO?

going to games and talking with fans. i have fans thank me all the time which blows my mind because i'm the one that needs to thank them.
THIS is what we want to hear from our FO, right? Or is there such a thing as bad press?
I want to hear a facsimile of what the KC owner said.
What Chicago released is, well, embarrassing. I would prefer the Revs to remain quiet if that was the level of quality of the information.
Heinemann's comments are just depressing to read as a Revs fan. And you know he actually means his comments, because he's backed up those things.
Yeah ... no idea what that guy was thinking.
To be honest, he did ramble but at least he was putting something out there giving examples of the promotion they did for the USOC game. He tried to make their owner a human being rather than some abstract figure that doesn't care (addressing THAT perception head on takes balls IMO). The message I took from his rambling diatribe was, 'Hey we're not perfect but let's figure out a way to work together to improve things.'
And he's right to call out Fire fans for personally attacking their owner or other fans - that shows you the type of scum some of their fans are.
By comparison, our FO gives us what to talk about ...[crickets]
Yes. There is an app you can download that only works on the stadium's wifi network that gives all kind of gameday info, including access to live video feeds of the broadcast and like 5 other camera angles. It's cool to check out replays of controversial plays that they won't show on the big scoreboards. Also, it's neat to check out the sideline camera from time to time.
Even the Chicago Fire thinks their fans suck
Precourt seems to be on board for multiple DPs, a logo change and image refresh, all of which is more than we're getting: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20130823/columbus-crew-anthony-precourt/
I hope this guys lives up to this talk. He could easily be another Paulson or Hieneman. It sounds like he did more in his first few days than Sonny has done in the last few years.
In unrelated news, I heard JDEsq was hired as the Director of Communications for the Chicago Fire about 6 months ago.
That post was meant to be targeted at a small group of "fans" whose behaviour after their USOC loss was abhorrent. It is a sarcastic rant that fails miserably. It and their FO statement in support of the ComDir miss the mark - like hitting the corner flag when taking a PK.
Don't we have a concise adjective for missing the mark that badly.
"It and their FO statement in support of the ComDir were khanoesque."
Separate names with a comma.
