http://nasn.tv/2012/mls-working-with-usl-pro-on-reserve-league-integration/ So what does this mean for our reserves, which have been progressing just fine? Is Dayton considered close enough that we will essentially forfeit our team and send them five guys to learn to play "like Dutchmen"? I certainly hope not.
Mod: This is a good thread split, but this discussion has been going on in at least one other thread (I think, "Other Teams News" though it could have been the roster thread). Might be good to move that discussion here....
Possibly so, but until there are one or two more actual facts, the discussions I've seen elsewhere quickly dissolve into terminal stupidity, navel-gazing and fantasy. It appears to be as much an agreement in principle as anything else, and the devil will be very much in the details, of which we have virtually none.
On the bright side, many people are suggesting this is just the first step leading to... ....wait for it..... ...promotion and relegation. And a very Merry Christmas to you.
Just the opposite, is my guess. The model will be MLB and MiLB and their relationship--which has worked well for quite some time now--almost as long as Pro/Rel.
Why is everyone so hung up on pro/rel? It will be the frickin death knell of MLS because the owner/investors are not going to put up with a drop without parachute payments and ginormous TV contracts, which MLS has neither. We need to build up this league first to the point that it is sustainable to have pro/rel, but with single entity status that is going to be real interesting to see how an owner in the drop zone is going to behave when there is a hard salary cap.
would it be promotion/relegation from MLS, or just for a reserve league/semi-pro/amateur league? Anywho, the distances to travel would be too big for anything other than a regional thing. trouble with regions is that you could see some regions being way better than others I suppose. don't know much about mlb milb but I imagine that if that works, it might be similar to that? I guess more info is needed.
More talk about this jive: http://aol.sportingnews.com/soccer/...artnership-needed-to-help-cultivate-young-us- Imagine, instead of benching GBS during the playoffs, Bobby could have sent him to the minor leagues as punishment. Stay on his good side, Higuain.
Yeah, no idea why people would think MLS reserves playing on lower level league teams would mean promotion and relegation instead of a farm system like baseball and hockey.
This is good news. 'Twill be interesting to see how it works out. And I'm betting on a possible CBA beef/discussion about it too. Where do the USL players fit in, in regard to the players union, for example? Members or not? How will players move? Will there be three types of players now--full roster, reserve, and USL only?
