@SportingKC: #SportingKC to unveil Designated Player tomorrow, 1pm CT. Announcement live on our YouTube channel.http://bit.ly/TWu3Ub
One more time since I've gotten really annoyed this "imminent signing" has gone silent the past 3 weeks... WHERE'S PERY?!?!?!
Played 29 league games for Vasco last season, leading them to 5th place. Second on team with 7 goals, first with 8 assists.
Strange story coming out of Dallas: FC Dallas Part Ways with Daniel Hernandez, 3 weeks after giving him a coaching job. Buzz Carrick, 3rd Degree
Ecuador has a decent league. Looking at his stats he did pretty well. 28 years old, decent size and played at a good level, not a bad signing for the league. Supposedly Maradona called him up but he turned it and is now hoping to become a Ecuadorian citizen and play for that team
When was the last time anyone ever said this about our group...? Serious question. Grant Wahl @GrantWahl Kansas City signs Argentine forward Claudio Bieler as a Designated Player. (KC front office never seems to sleep.)
MLS Working With USL-PRO On Reserve League Integration 1. If an MLS city has a USLPRO team nearby, MLS will provide 5 players and pay their salary.2. If there’s no USLPRO team, the MLS reserve side will become a new, permanent team in USLPRO.3. All USLPRO teams will have an MLS affiliate.http://nasn.tv/2012/mls-working-with-usl-pro-on-reserve-league-integration/
If they can make this happen, I think this would be great in getting reserves a lot more playing time than they currently are.
Agreed. I think the Revs would fall under the second category. Closest current USL-PRO teams are Rochester and Harrisburg (both 6 hours away).
MLS best quotes of the year. I had to laugh at this one... I liked this one as well... And my favorite quote, because THIS is how I want the Krafts to think...
Sounds like they still have some things to work out, but if they can, this would be HUGE. Ten games a year for reserve players just isn't enough.
Well this was great planning by MLS. The LA Galaxy open their season and their quest for their third straight MLS Cup, at home against Chicago on March 3rd. They're currently scheduled to play in the 1/4s of the CCL on March 4th.
The problem is that it still looks dumb from one side or the other. The CCL site (on their main page) shows the LA game actually as 3/3. The schedule page lists it as 3/4.
More thoughts on this. USL-Pro is currently unbalanced geographically. Two teams on the west coast (LA, and expansion team in Phoenix). The rest are in the east (10 teams) and Antigua. So it makes sense for the west coast teams to add MLS Reserves teams to cut down on travel. My concern would be inequality in MLS, if one MLS team gets a full schedule of USL-Pro games, while another only gets that for 5 players. USL-Pro teams played a 24-game schedule in 2012.
MLS reserve teams would probably have to add roster spots, since they wouldn't be able to count on primary roster players with independent schedules (unless they are going to rely on academy players to fill in, but that doesn't sound like a great solution either).
i'd argue that filling out the rosters with promising academy players is a great step towards further development.. in the big picture, it could really take the MLS academy system to a new level
