Aw man, they got Ryan Johnson?

I bet we could have beaten Toronto's offer given the assets we've picked up in trades - for a local guy who's been productive as well! Johnson has his scoring droughts, but he's proven he can play in MLS and do extremely well. THIS is the kind of player I wanted for Benny if we had to trade him.

Chivas and Portland also trade positions in the allocation rankings for the 2013 season. PDX now second in the list.

Opara to SKC for a 2nd round pick.

They're making some great moves. The acquisitions of Benny and Opara both came at a relatively low cost. Both players should come in with renegotiated contracts, so it will be interesting to see how much they're getting paid. Assuming they're both taking decent pay cuts, these are two quality pickups for SKC.

Giving up a 2nd round pick for Opara was very smart, even if I'm not sold on Opara. It's basically trading away a throwaway pick in exchange for moving up to #1 in the re-entry draft. Smart move.

Well then we might as well stop making draft picks.

Just not realistic in this day and age to expect anyone coming through the draft to step in and be an immediate starter. I'm sure it'll happen in some cases, but you can't plan on it.

Best to pick the kid you think will help you the most three years from now.

And FWIW, if it's Farrell, Zimmerman, and Zavaleta in the Top 3, and I'm forced to pick from Mullin, Powers, and Blake... that's not such a bad consolation prize.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Zimmerman or Zavaleta fall to the Revs. Here's how I look at it:

    - Farrell is pretty much a forgone conclusion to go #1 overall
    - Mikey Lopez seems like a natural selection for Chivas at #2 considering they're trying to get "more Hispanic," per Vegara.
    - And according to Ives' latest report, TFC has serious interest in Ashton Bennett (he's a Canadian resident). So he could easily go #3 overall.

It's obviously all speculation at this point (because we have no idea who will get GA contracts, although it appears that Zimmerman is going pro), but I think we have a good chance at having a quality player drop to us.

He has absolutely no experience in how MLS works. Import coaches typically do not do well in this league.

Glaring example would be Chivas themselves, in 2005. At by the looks of it, Chelis is going to try the same strategy of bringing in Chivas Guad. rejects... that worked out so well last time!

I'd rather be in our situation that Chivas' anyday.

I think you want a stream of good talent coming from the draft, year after year, whether they start immediately or not.

For all the Revs failures at foreign acquisitions, they really dropped off when there was a several year spell of poor drafting.

The instant starters should be veteran acquisitions.

The issue is that we got really lucky in the draft for several years and people (fans and the FO alike) started to believe that we could rely on the draft for a yearly influx of talent. That was a major mistake.

I remember every year for about three, you'd keep hearing from the draft-niks something to the effect of "Well, we're not sure about that pick but you have to trust Nicol."

Rumor has it Portland is lining up a move for Diskerud. Pretty surprising if true. I think Mix has the talent to play Eredivisie or Championship caliber football. Guess he wants to hook back up with Porter, which is even more surprising to me. Porter played Mix 270 minutes in 5 days in a 3 man midfield.

Portland seems to have too many forwards after the trade. Johnson, Boyd, Mwanaga, and Dike. I would not be surprised to see Mwanga shopped.

What a dumb move that would be for Mixx.
