Might as well create the game thread to a mod can sticky it. A MLS team is taking the title this year. I can feel it...

Toronto vs Los Angeles - 8 pm EST - FSC
Seattle vs Santos Laguna - 10 pm EST - FSC

Telefutura (spanish channel) will also show both legs of the Sounders-Santos series and the LAG-TFC series.

Will be interesting to see if Donovan is back even close to 100% for the first leg v. TFC given his bout of bronchitis he's come down with. Heck, I suspect he won't be 100% for the 2nd leg.

    Outlook on attendance:

Toronto has sold out its home match at Rogers Centre with a capacity of 45,000. Seattle so far has "only" sold 16,500 against Santos. The home match for the Galaxy meanwhile has been capped at 7,500.

Seattle caught a little bit of a break in that Quintero is out for Santos--quick winger type.

I'm sure it will be a tough matchup anyway, but hey.

How many competitive matches have Santos played since Seattle finished up competition in 2011?

(edit: if you guessed 16, then you may be right. looks like it will be nine league games so far in 2012 and seven from late in 2011 since Seattle last played a competitive match on Nov 2, 2011.)

and yes I recognize that Seattle has stepped up their pre-season intensity and played some good friendlies/exhibitions during this MLS off-season. But it will be interesting to see if Santos being "in-season" now will or will not be some (significant) advantage in their CCL series versus the MLS Sounders (out of season now for the last four months).

the HDC is on a college campus that needs (and has priority for) the available parking on weekday evenings when classes are in session -- "because of a long standing, mutual agreement with The Home Depot Center and California State University, Dominguez Hills regarding reduced stadium capacity for midweek games during the school year."

Exceptions can be made and agreed to for certain matches. Do not know if an exception will or can be made on March 14. (but that may be a topic for the "2nd Leg" thread after the QF Leg 1s are played.)

On a historical sidenote, Santos is the only Mexican Primera club that has ever lost a home & away series to a MLS team. Kansas City to be exact, in the 2002 CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals.

Do you use total goals or two wins/one win and a tie? RSL lost away 5-4 but won at home 3-1 in its series with Cruz Azul in 2010.

Or do you mean series as in not part of a round robin in group play?

He means that. A 2 game series where the winner moves on.

The later, KC lost 2-1 down in Mexico, then won 2-0 at Arrowhead in the second leg.

I'm purely talking about knock-out rounds with elimination on the line.

Not that Kansas City went on to accomplish great things, they lost 7-2 on aggregate to Morelia in the semifinals.

I'm sure Santos will not like the weather or the travel.

Do any MFL teams play on fake grass?

If the Galaxy advance, I hope the semis will be on Thursday, when the HDC can allow a more reasonable cap. Having said that, we haven't even sold out the 7,500 for the Toronto game yet. In fact, you can get as many as 8 seats together in every section that is open. Hopefully people will pick these tix up and game time approaches.

What's TFC's likely lineup? They made enough changes last season that I'm not too familiar with their roster.

I hope it's ok to insert a quote from the TFC forum as a starting point:

The forum mentioned de Guzman and Soolsma are suspended for yellow card accumulation.
