I highly recommend spending time on the Voyageurs Canada forum. They hate Teal with a passion. Like a "I hope he gets a career ending injury" passion. They also think we're rivals or something. It's delightful and hilarious. I lurk there often.
Yeah, I thought I heard that, too. BTW - here's the Voyageurs thread on the game: http://www.cansoc.org/showthread.php?41900-Caps-vs.-SKC-Apr.-2nd
The best was when Teal switched. They really harp on this a lot. They must have space for roughly seven youth players for as much as they complain about Teal taking a spot. Probably the funniest part of the whole thing. Utterly furious he switched, but apparently he was crap the whole time. WHY U MAD, CANADIA? LOLOLOLOLOLOL Yes, the entire US Soccer community is at constant war with the mighty Canadians. Well, judging by what happened yesterday, I'd say they didn't bother Teal too much. Good luck with that. Although I did just get the wonderful image of Canada in the Hex and going to Azteca. Hah! That's what you think, poutine-lover! We're so thin with "developed" forwards we'll start MLS rookies and teenagers (and love it!). These people must never visit BS. The amount of self-mutilation on these boards would shock even the hardiest Carnadian. More often? How about ever? Apologies for the spam, but I'm trying to create some hostility before the GC match. I don't want to be the only American gloating when we stomp them.
Bunbury got an interesting mention in the Vancouver vs. Kansas City match report from the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation): "Canadian striker Teal Bunbury had a pair for Kansas City (1-1-1), while Kai Kamara also scored." http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2011/04/02/sp-whitecaps.html
Shouldn't have surprised anyone if you'd seen his games v Pachuca in the pst. The kid is fantastic. Sadly, the US is stupidly stacked at GK for the next 2-3 decades to come.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition I thought Gaven was the clear MOTM and put in a vintage performance.
Are we? I certainly don't think we are. I would say that we're weaker at keeper than we have been in a long time. Other than Howard, we have Guzan and Yelldell, who are 2nd division keepers at the moment. I"m not sure about the latter, and the former could definitely improve in areas. There's a lot of room for a high-class keeper to emerge.
Anthony Wallace was very solid defensively tonight at LEFT BACK and hit a sweet cross for the game-winning assist. Wallace is only 22 and seems to have really settled in to a comfort spot in Colorado and is playing some good soccer. He doesn't lack in physical attributes - size, pace - and as he matures he's becoming much better defensively. I'm not ready to proclaim him the sollution to the US' left back woes, but if he continues to play well at LB for one of the better teams in MLS (and better defensive teams), I think he should get a chance to show if his play can translate to a higher level.
So so far this year, players to watch: Bunbury Agudelo Wallace Loyd Hall Ream Maybe Shea in the long-term Who else?
Omar Gonzalez... He still should be considered in the national team picture. He is looking like the next Onyewu. Had a strong showing against philly even when the Galaxy got red carded, he still helped galaxy win 1-0. Aslo Kenny Cooper, Charlie Davies, and Sean Franklin. Who is Hall? I have never heard of him.
Wallace wasn't tested much defensively yesterday, but played some lovely crosses/balls. One was an inch perfect cross that Smith deftly headed for a goal and the other was a nice 15-25 yard lofted ball to Amarikwa that Amarikwa nicely one touched to Pablo that ended with a Cummings goal. I've seen enough of Wallace to think that he has the potential to be a good player going forward. I haven't seen him tested much defensively, so the jury is still out there for me. Given the black hole at LB, he should have as good a chance as anyone to step up and be an option for the USMNT. I'm not saying he'll necessarily be great, but hopefully, better than the current options.
Sounds like Gonzalez. But the guy is great in the air and he even though Onyewu is slow and awkward, he is still a good defender than AC milan purchased.
