Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Bunbury with a goal Wondo with a brace? Agudelo? What forward problem?
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Chris Wondolowski thinks your sh*t is weak hes making the leagues best defense look silly right now, Convey too. I have no words why Ike is on the bench, slight knock maybe? oh and Jon Busch might have just taken the pedistol of best keeper in the league, at least this week.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Brandon McDonald is starting over Opara. I thought McDonald played pretty well, but Ike really controlled the air when he came on late. Opara couldn't have hurt his chances for more pt with that performance. Loyd looked good when he moved to right back after being sub par at center back. I thought Bobby Convey was fairly quiet. He needs to have more of an impact if he wants to get back into the national team picture.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Posters in other USMNT threads have rightly noted how important Bocanegra is to us on set pieces, in the air. I recall Opara getting off to a rather auspicious start in the air, last year, prior to injury. If he can see the field and continue his development, perhaps that would be an argument for easing him into the mix.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Busch was great at the end of 2010 too. This is why no USMNT should worry about our keeper situation. Our 10th string keeper is still of adequate quality to start at the Gold Cup. Wondo's goal was really nice. Some of us were wondering whether he was going to be a "one year wonder"......................but he's gonna shut us up pretty quickly with performances like that. He shouldn't be out of the Gold Cup discussion, especially if Buddle's gonna be a squad rotation player on a club in the relegation zone of BundII.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition It all comes down to his ability to actually defend. Secondary skills aren't worth much when a player struggles with the basic duty of his position -- ask Michael Parkhurst. Judging by the fact that Opara is San Jose's third central defender right now, he has a ways to go.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition mls site said Shea played in the midfield. Is the Cb experiment over or what?
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition George John and Ihemelu are quality. Pretty to hard to have those guys sit so Shea can learn the position. Tough position for him really.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition He started at CB and moved up near the end when FCD was pushing for a goal.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition thinking its strictly tactical as we have switched to a 4-3-3 and we are switching to a possession instead of a long ball team (praise jesus!!!), so BMac and Hernendez are the most desirable options at the back. We've been putting him on to lock it down and closing games out. San Jose has one hell of a deep backline, theyre surely losing one of their central defenders in the expansion draft this year (id assume dallas will too). That said i still think SJ protect Opara, Hernendez, and BMac. Montreal will swoop for Burling IMO.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Rogers and Gavens both played solid games for the Crew last night. http://www.majorleaguesoccertalk.com/columbus-2-0-dallas-match-review/12178
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Can we get an [R] here? Oh well Bunbury just scored a very good goal from outside the box.
Agudelo was all over the place for NY. I'm starting to appreciate what a good crosser of the ball he is. He put two crosses on a plate in the dying moments of the game, but neither Henry nor Rogers could convert them.
He played pretty well. He did miss a good chance of his own though on that cross near the end of the game.
3 goals to be exact...and all of them were well taken. I only saw highlights of his goals but how was the rest of his play today?
Don't know. Gift horse. Mouth. My guess is that if he breaks out this year, he'll be courting suitors overseas pretty quickly. Bob does have a knack for picking the right young talent.
