Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition don't forget sean johnson out of the chicago game. johnson and agudelo: can each build upon an encouraging rookie campaign? cameron: will he follow in the dom kinnearean footsteps of derosario, donovan, clark, and holden as league midfield star and national team regular? brek shea: how high and how fast will his star rise? imwanga: is he gonna wait on the us wynne and mcdonald : can each take the next step in his first full season at cb? can anyone truly shine at leftback?
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition I don't think you can write seitz off yet. Yes i understand he sucked last season, but that was his first full season as a GK. He did well in the few games he played for RSL and we all remember how well he played with the U-20s. Of course if he sucks this year then yeah i guess he's done.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition I wont write Seitz off per se, but I dont have high expectations. For example Hamid wasnt that great when he played last year, but you could see pretty good somewhere on the horizon. Seitz has a long way to go just to get to mediocre. To get to national team level? Thats a loooooooooooong haul.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition From the TV coverage, the surface was wet but the roll of the ball was true and the footing was reasonable. And it didn't stop Juninho from cracking one in. PS. My take is that fields in less than perfect locations (and that would exclude anyone outside of California), should go to the new AstroTurf, as it will provide them with a higher average performance over the course of the season than natural grass. Sure, if you're in Green Bay and you're only playing 10 games there the whole season, you can get by with a hybrid (DESSO) field. But, having watched puddle-ball in Denmark, England, Holland and Germany to say nothing of the frozen ground in Russia, I'd have to cast my vote for the new carpets. And, in the Chicago mode, twice.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Vancouver and TFC is a great game. BTW all games are free this weekend on Direct Kick
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition BTW, can a moderator add the [R] to the title which I neglected to add. Because in about 4 hours there is going to be a bunch of matches spoiled for posters who aren't careful.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition I'll stress that I am not one to overhype a young player. But it is really hard to not get excited about Agudelo after having just watched that goal he scored against Seattle.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Charlie Davies has to be in the discussion for the gold cup now. He looks to be getting back to normal. Just needs more gametime
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition video of Davies 2nd goal, defender falls down but still great to see him in action again: http://www.mlssoccer.com/videos?catid=114&id=12551
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Haven't been watching...not a good game for Shea? I'd say give him some time. On a side note, what exactly is our CB problem? Goodson, Gooch, Ream, hell even Kitchen looked pretty good out there tonight.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition First game of the season? Way too early to give up on that yet. Just his size alone should be a positive in that position.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Agudelo, Davies, Pontius Who says we don't have any depth up top?
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Don't know about Pontius yet. He's got all the tools and tons of potential, but he's certainly not "there" yet.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition I thought this was the overreaction thread? I'm certainly not pencilling the latter two ahead of Jozy just yet. Seriously though, Agudelo is a stud, Davies is coming back, and I definitely think Pontius has some great tools. Crazy that the youngest one of the three is probably the most international ready at this point.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition good to hear that, especially since he is already on the radar
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition Pontius has got to stay healthy. He looked good tonight though. I've always thought of him as a poor man's Dempsey, albeit with less aerial ability. Wolfe was beastly. Fast, passed well, great finish. If he were 5 years younger, we'd be talking about him quite a bit. Kitchen was okay. Quiet, which isn't such a bad thing. For Columbus, I liked that they started Duka over Rogers. Duka didn't do much, and Rogers merely finished a pk, but both of them ought to improve if they are going against each other for the starting role.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition You know, Loyd looked awfully good. Shea has a lot of upside at CB. If he can figure the position out, he'll be a monster there. That's a big if, though.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition In SJ Wondo was wasteful, but was still finding himself in the positions that earned him the golden boot last year. I thought Cronin had a strong game considering the strength of RSL's midfield and the conditions of the game. Anthony Ampaipitakwong had a bright performance off the bench. He is one of the group of Akron draftees this year. Ike Opara did not play, Jason Hernandez and Brandon McDonald were preferred and had a decent night.
Re: MLS flavors of the week: 2011 Edition What's his ethnic background? Last name sounds Ghanaian. Anyone know?
