If @newtex is interested in a fourth season, I am too. As your candidate, I promise to do a half-assed job and just quit with three weeks left in the season. I also promise to gripe about the unbalanced schedule.
I'm in. The West won last year with a record of 41-22-27 (W-T-L) so I'll do the standings from their perspective. That was a strong comeback after the East won in 2012 at 35-23-32. The best individual teams last year in each conference were Vancouver who went 7-1-2 against the East and Houston, maintaining tradition, by going 5-1-3 against the West. Houston has been better against the West on PPG than against the East every year since we got moved over to the East. Week 1 fixtures: SEA v. SKC VAN v. NYR FCD v. MON POR v. PHI CHV v. CHI

Dang, East was in most of these games but just came undone late in a lot of them -- Seattle, FC Dallas, Portland, Chivas == all late goals to turn the tide against the East. Didn't help that ALL of those games were away games for the East.

Anybody who knows how to tell LibreOffice or Notepad that when I ask for four characters in my format cells option, the negative sign needs to count as an option, please PM me with instructions. Anyway, like newtex said, this was a great week to have a home game be a Western team. Four more games next week, that way Don Garber can blow through 10% of the inter-conference fixtures to start off the season so we can have our fabricated precious intra-conference Trillium Cup rivalries to end the season. See you next week!
BTW, here is the breakdown for inter-conference games by week: Week 1: 5 games Week 2: 4 games Week 3: 3 games Week 4: 6 games Week 5: 2 games Week 6: 3 games Week 7: 1 game Week 8: 2 games Week 9: 5 games Week 10: 3 games Week 11: 2 games Week 12: 4 games Week 13: 3 games Week 14: 5 games (midpoint of inter-conference play, June 7) Week 15: 0 games (only 2 league games) Week 16: 4 games Week 17: 4 games Week 18: 2 games Week 19: 6 games Week 20: 3 games Week 21: 3 games Week 22: 3 games Week 23: 3 games Week 24: 2 games Week 25: 2 games Week 26: 2 games Week 27: 2 games Week 28: 3 games Week 29: 2 games Week 30: 1 game Week 31: 0 games Week 32: 0 games Week 33: 0 games
Well done!! Any corresponding stats for the past 2 seasons as well? (If the similar trend of "more intra-conference games at the end of regular season" holds true too...)
I'll see if I can find the old posts. My recollection is that in 2012 the distribution of games was even more extreme with almost all of the inter-conference games in the first half of the season. Last year was similar to this year.
This was the inter-conference game summary for 2012 in the last half of the season. I don't think I did one for the entire season. Week 15: 2 Week 16: 3 Week 17: 2 Week 18: 3 Week 19: 3 Week 20: 1 Week 21: 1 Week 22: 0 Week 23: 0 Week 24: 4 Week 25: 1 Week 26: 2 Week 27: 1 Week 28: 0 Week 29: 3 Week 30: 1 Week 31: 0 Week 32: 0 Week 33: 1 75 of the 90 games had been played by July 15.
Here is the week-by-week for 2013: Week 1 (March 2-3) - 5 games Week 2 (March 9-10) - 5 games Week 3 (March 16-17) - 2 games Week 4 (March 23-24) - 2 games Week 5 (March 30) - 3 games Week 6 (April 5-7) - 3 games Week 7 (April 13-14) - 1 game Week 8 (April 17-21) - 1 game Week 9 (April 27-28) - 2 games Week 10 (May 2-5) - 6 games Week 11 (May 8-12) - 6 games Week 12 (May 15-19) - 2 games Week 13 (May 25-26) - 2 games Week 14 (June 1-2) - 2 games Week 15 (June 5-8) - 1 game Week 16 (June 15) - 1 game Week 17 (June 19-23) - 3 games Week 18 (June 29-30) - 5 games Week 19 (July 3-7) - 10 games Week 20 (July 12-14) - 2 games Week 21 (July 17-20) - 5 games Week 22 (July 27-28) - 2 games Week 23 (Aug. 3-4) - 0 games Week 24 (Aug. 10-11) 2 games Week 25 (Aug. 17-18) 2 games Week 26 (Aug. 21-25) 2 games Week 27 (Aug. 30-Sep. 1) - 2 games Week 28 (Sep. 4-8) - 4 games Week 29 (Sep. 11-15) - 1 game Week 30 (Sep. 20-22) - 3 games Week 31 (Sep. 27-29) - 2 games Week 32 (Oct. 4-6) - 0 games Week 33 (Oct. 9-13) - 1 game Week 34 (Oct. 18-20) - o games Week 35 (Oct. 23-27) - o games Not as extreme as 2012. Very similar to 2014. The midpoint was June 20. By comparison 15 games to go was on August 18. That is pretty much the same as this year.

Thanks for tabulating all this. You might want to check the data on home and away ties between East and West. Currently the numbers don't match up. edit - could it be the Portland - Chicago game that got misplaced? Portland has tied both Philly and Chicago at home.
Fixed for next week. I've set up LibreOffice Calc to automate everything except the H/A WLT and the GA, GS, GD for each team. That means the number of errors will decrease. You were right, it was the Portland problem. Thank you!
