Monge is a terrible pick, just a mediocre soccer player. Could've gotten him at the end of round two.
This draft was going according to plan, with a few players sliding several slots up or down relative to general media expectations, and then the last two picks have been totally out of the blue.
Kemp and Rugg are interesting picks. If you'd been projecting the top picks a couple years back, they would've been very high on the list. Did they slip because of their injuries, or because they weren't as good as people thought?
Better value picks before they were selected. Also, teams draft for a variety of reasons, and a lot of teams chose positional needs. LB is a plentiful in the draft, so they could wait and grab whoever was still available.
Nice of Healey to pronounce Goncalves right (c sounds like s). Heaps didn't know how to say his own player's name.
Yes. But they also got a guy who, if he does decide to play soccer, is probably going to be better than most of the players left on the board...because he was only left on the board this long because he may want to be a missionary instead of a soccer player. Might be a reasonable gamble depending on what the Galaxy know about him and his family's decision-making.
Depending how he would've played at the combine, I'm not sure he would've gone higher. Excellent college player, questionable upside.
Wouldn't have been just about the combine, of course, but as Bekker and Hurtado showed, a strong combine does move you a few places.
