I don't know about everyone else but I feel the MLS Cup trophy should be redesigned! I know the league likes to be unique but lets be serious...I wish we could have a trophy worth playing for. We should atleast design it to look maby like the UEFA Champons league trophy.I don't know, maby someone can come up with a better design. I just feel we should have a trophy worth winning! What does everyone think?
I don't care, at least it isn't as hideous as "Lord Stanley's Cup" -- the ugliest trophy in the universe. Sure, it has history, but it is hideodorous!
I am not a huge fan of the trophy, I have seen it up close. I am not sure a redesign is really needed, no matter what design the MLS cup has someone won't like it. I do feel a new name for it is needed. I believe it is the alan rothenburg trophy. I understand why it is called that. I know he already has one named after him, but the Lamar Hunt MLS CUP sounds good to me and a nice legacy for a man who gave so much to Soccer in the USA
The fact that it is in 2 countries, with Vancouver being talked about as a second expansion, and Montreal pondering it.
I think it should at least be an actual cup. Like the European Cup, FA Cup, etc. Maybe we could do something like the Euro Cup, where if a single team wins it 5 times or 3 in a row we give it to them permanently. We can take it one step further and use that as an excuse to redesign the trophy.
Will it be a Cup of Java or a Cup of Tea. I think Euro posers might like a cup of tea better. I wonder how poster feel about the NBA trophie or the World CUP. It is kinda hard to pour anything in that one.
^^^^^^ The World Cup Trophy is the most beautiful Trophy in all of sports and it means the most. As for the MLS CUP, it doesnt really bother me, it could be better I suppose, does it remind anyone else about the Superbowl trophy?

the MLS CUP is ugly and i would like to see it changed to somthing resembling a cup... but i think the trophy that is in dire need of an update is the Supporter's Shield i know its history (of being founded and paid for by fans) and mean no disrespect to those who created it, but it's design is lousy and its looks no longer match the stature of the regular season champs who now qualify for international tournaments why not puruse the 'Shield' idea and make it more like the Bundesliga Shield or the Community Shield?
I think what it stands for, and what doors it opens for the winning team the following season, makes it worth winning. Who gives a shit what it looks like?
This is the most eurosnob thread I have ever posted in. I agree with the previous post. The MLS Cup is OK. It remains me of the NBA trophie. The supporters shield is also ok. What about the BCS or Final Four trophie? Do you guys dislike those too? Not everything european i better.
So why call it the MLS CUP if it dosen't look like one? Its the NBA trophie so why would it look like a cup? stop trying to make arguements & think about what you say. Nothing in the mls is original! If its not from europe its from south america so stop your eurosnob rant!
b/c the original World Cup was a 'cup' and was given to Brazil after they won three World Cups what? only us so-called EuroSnobs know the history of the game?
So because they gave away the first cup, it's perfectly acceptable that the world cup is no longer played for an actual cup? I think that the SS is fine, but it would be pretty sweet if it was an actual shield.
Additionally, it's an example of a very misleading title. The use of the past tense implies news about an accomplished redesign. I wouldn't have even come here if it had been: MLS Cup: Redesign It sheesh
