"Chuck Norris is afraid of being Olave'd!" Who ever made that sign, you're awesome. Best sign I've seen yet! WE WON!!!
Congrats on the Championship, you guys deserved it and you had great traveling support. We only did this chant when our team was out on the field prior to the match, after that the only Sounders chants that happened were after some LA fans sung an anti-Sounder one. I think the general consensus was to not detract from the teams that were playing.
Seattle and all of the fans at the game were great. Awesome to see as much Cobalt and Claret as we did see.
Way to go RSL!!! It's 2 hours later and I'm still so excited I don't know what to say!!! We defend the Cup next year! Screw you ESPN and your crap announcers! Congrats also to the RSL supporters that made the trip - it almost sounded like we were playing a home game! How can I possibly be expected to go to work tomorrow?
yup, im still running on a bit of adrenaline, gonna go to bed now though. gotta also give a shoutout to Barra Real, you guys absolutely rocked tonight. ESPN gave major air time to you guys and you put all LA galaxy fans to shame. great way to represent RSL!
You guys looked like BAMFs in all the photos! Too bad the tv cameras shot the other side of the stadium... bastards. I'm still shocked. Absolutely shocked. RSL has done SLC proud, that's for sure.
Son of a son of a donut man! Congratulations on a hard fought, hard won Championship! Shows what you can do when you believe and have a lot of heart. We luv ya!
That's a great post Balance. I watched the Braves religiously on tv for years and still remember the shiver down my back when Vin Scully said, "Welcome to our broadcast of the 1991 World Series...and look who's here." as the camera panned to the Braves. I also suffered through the worst 3 years of Florida State football in the early 70s, never missing a home game, only to subsequently witness a 14 year dynasty in the making and execution over the next 25 years. This MLS CUP playoff ride ranks up there with them.
Congratulations on the win! You were the better team for most of the game and totally deserved to win. The midfield was in your control, LA couldn't find their way through your midfield except through long balls. I was also impressed by the referee, I think he got most his decisions spot on. Excellent final game, including the great atmosphere in Seattle, one to remember. A great game on Sunday night espn to promote the league.
Well said - Agree 100%!!!! What's amazing is even the bit of 'suffering' fans experience this year with our road record. The thing I'm most excited about is the controlled, attacking style of play we exhibited in our last 3 games.... all on the road - @ Columbus, @ Chicago and @ MLS Cup. With our solid back line play we pushed forward and kept all 3 teams on their heels. We deserved to win with the play on the field. Positive, attacking soccer - Not always pretty - and surely lacking some finishing - but it just brought us home the Cup!!!!
I used to drive 3.5 hrs from Ft. Stewart to be the guy sitting 5 rows down with a beer on either side in the empty seat. This is Nirvana!! (In sramanic thought, Nirvana (Sanskrit: निर्वाण, Nirvāṇa; Sinhala: නිර්වාණය; Tamil: நிர்வணா; Pali: निब्बान, Nibbāna; Prakrit: णिव्वाण; Thai: นิพพาน, Nípphaan) is the state of being free from suffering. It is an important concept in Buddhism and Jainism.) And REALLY important if you've been an RSL fan for the last 5 years. RSL so deserved this and BTW, so did WE!!!!!!!!!
Sorry if a re-post (haven't been online much whilst in Seattle)... but this gem from the bemused UK press:Here, Becks was the star attraction of an FA Cup final, US style. Los Angeles, with their superstar duo of Beckham and Donovan, were obviously masquerading as Chelsea while the blue collar lads of Salt Lake were pretending to be Bolton.... The ticker tape poured from the Seattle sky again but the idea that LA’s star quality would now take over was quickly dispelled after the break by a stirring fightback from Salt Lake, accompanied by their noisy fans who put Los Angeles’ more urbane bunch to shame. ...
Thought I would dig up this quote from LA's PK specialist Edson Buddle, from July '08: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2008/07/mls-all-star-ga.html Oh man, what a stupid thing to say (especially since the three teams he mentions as "good" have had at least one terrible season in the last two years).
