As rumors go, this one isn't terribly convincing. The Aztecs part is probably the least credible portion of it. I'm guessing MLS has talked with some Mexican businessmen based in California. I'm sure MLS has spoken to a number of people. And I'm sure they want to finalize a buyer after the World Cup. Tell me something I couldn't have predicted ...
Chivas are moving to Topeka KS. Will be named Topeka Aztecs, in honor of Topeka's Mexican heritage. Take it to the bank. Remember naysayers, I called it first.
Agreed, he'd immediately be the best and most interesting (co-)owner in MLS if his identity were never revealed. He could/should attend matches and public events in a luchador mask -- "el Owner."
I will support this, as long as all players wear a luchadore mask, and if any player lose a mask, they have to retire
Once that question is answered can someone tell me when the new TV contract and CBA will be signed. Thanks in advance!
there was a joke there and my heads to foggy to think of it in the 3 seconds i allocated to it, so i went with that.
According to the article the deal has been done. They are just waiting till after the WC to announce it.
The guy who wrote it is actually pretty reliable in the Mexican soccer scene. He reported that Vergara had sold Chivas USA before anyone else
Wow , thanks. I wonder why they are waiting 3 months? Seems like quite a long time to announce a new owner. Maybe they will wait until after the WC to sign a big time DP?
Actually @footballfantatic Andy was correct, this was not the right thread for your rebrand idea. This is News and Analysis and a random rebrand suggestion is neither. Therefore your post was moved to the appropriate thread which I have linked to for your convenience. In the future for something that is both this big a change, and this old please try using the search feature or even google which as the link illustrates using the simple terms "Bigsoccer chivas usa rebrand" returns the correct thread at the very top of the results. Thanks!
Whoever buys this team, a simple formula for a quick turn around in fortunes: A.) have a stadium plan that is realistic, feasible, and has a time table. Rebrand (goes without saying) B.) Sign Cubo Torres permanently C.) Sign Memo Ochoa D.) Make a run at Chicharito E.) Transfer Minda & restructure Rosales' deal This club would suddenly be very relevant in the LA market and actually appeal to the Latino fan base that it has failed to captivate over the years. It sounds simpler then it actually is, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities.
Nope. I'd give it until after the All Star game before we should be concerned about it though. Absolutely no reason anyone would leak anything during the blizzard of news that is the World Cup.
