Isn't it funny how the worst month would have been considered a fabulous one 11 years ago? Just for comparison's sake, the actual months-by-months for 2001: April - 14,947 May - 13,172 June - 14,493 July - 17,422 August - 13,541 September - 19,117 It USED to be that, if you took out the Independence Day games, MLS attendance made a near perfect bowl shape when graphed by month. Started well, then declined, hit the nadir in July (without the boost from 7/4 in Colorado and LA and such), then grew towards the end. Now it's pretty steady.
You match? I'm 610 off on Houston and 680 off on Seattle and both match what they have on the match reports. Darn MLS and their dual data sources.
i have no idea where MLS or anybody else is getting their number for Seattle ... if you go by each game recap/stats page on mlssoccer.com then Seattle should be: 732,761 total, 43,104 average 3/17 (vs TFC) - 38,709 3/23 (vs HOU) - 38,304 3/31 (vs SJE) - 38,301 4/14 (vs COL) - 38,360 5/2 (vs LAG) - 39,002 5/5 (vs PHI) - 38,399 5/12 (vs RSL) - 39,312 5/23 (vs CLB) - 38,311 6/20 (vs SKC) - 46,932 7/7 (vs COL) - 39,060 8/5 (vs LAG) - 60,908 8/18 (vs VWFC) - 55,718 9/8 (vs CHV) - 38,934 9/22 (vs SJE) - 38,948 10/7 (vs PTFC) - 66,452 10/17 (vs RSL) - 38,356 10/21 (vs FCD) - 38,755 and interestingly with Seattle's official capacity for CenturyLink this season being 38,500 (except for 3 games) it seems that Seattle missed 5 sellouts. they also have Houston wrong according to their game recaps/stats, it should be: 356,641 total, 20,979 average 5/12 (vs DCU) - 22,039 5/15 (vs PTFC) - 22,039 5/26 (vs LAG) - 22,039 6/16 (vs FCD) - 22,039 6/20 (vs TFC) - 21,423 6/30 (vs PHI) - 19,806 7/3 (vs CHI) - 22,039 7/15 (vs DCU) - 18,871 7/18 (vs SKC) - 19,761 7/21 (vs MTL) - 20,396 8/3 (vs RBNY) - 22,039 8/19 (vs CLB) - 20,567 8/25 (vs TFC) - 19,320 9/6 (vs RSL) - 18,452 9/29 (vs NER) - 22,039 10/6 (vs MTL) - 21,733 10/20 (vs PHI) - 22,039
Houston: 5/12/2012 DC United 22039 5/15/2012 Portland 22039 5/26/2012 Los Angeles 22039 6/16/2012 Dallas 22039 6/20/2012 Toronto 21423 6/30/2012 Philadelphia 19806 7/3/2012 Chicago 22039 7/15/2012 DC United 18871 7/18/2012 Kansas City 19761 7/21/2012 Montreal 20396 8/3/2012 New York 22039 8/19/2012 Columbus 20567 8/25/2012 Toronto 19320 9/6/2012 Salt Lake 18452 9/29/2012 New England 22039 10/6/2012 Montreal 21733 10/20/2012 Philadelphia 22039
I match now. I was off on Seattle a while back, but found the errors. And just found the Houston errors. I think it was 8/25 Toronto and 10/6 Montreal I had wrong.
Hmm. If the numbers you posted in the post prior to this one are your numbers, you can't match. They come to 356,641, while MLS has 357,251.
Pretty sure JC (well, that one) would focus on fixing March for nothing other than personal reasons! All that aside, April being the lowest attended month is pretty understandable. In certain markets the weather can be iffy....not as iffy as March but March has the benefit of season openers and the release of that winter of pent up demand shaking off.
They have 357,251 for Houston. I have 357,251 for Houston. 05/12/2012..DC United............22,039 05/15/2012..Portland Timbers.....22,039 05/26/2012..Los Angeles Galaxy...22,039 06/16/2012..FC Dallas............22,039 06/20/2012..Toronto FC...........21,423 06/30/2012..Philadelphia Union...19,806 07/03/2012..Chicago Fire.........22,039 07/15/2012..DC United............18,871 07/18/2012..Sporting KC..........19,761 07/21/2012..Montreal Impact......20,396 08/03/2012..New York Red Bulls...22,039 08/19/2012..Columbus Crew........20,567 08/25/2012..Toronto FC...........19,930 09/06/2012..Real Salt Lake.......18,452 09/29/2012..New England Revs.....22,039 10/06/2012..Montreal Impact......21,733 10/20/2012..Philadelphia Union...22,039 ................................357,251
Ahh, there we go. Thanks. Houston has a different number on their match report compared to what MLS has on the stats page for the game. Going with Houston's number gets the correct sum. For those of you that have a different number than what MLS has for the Sounders, the difference is that the team has the March 17 game vs Toronto as 39232 and the March 31 game vs San Jose as 38458. Once that is updated, the numbers match what MLS has.
It's interesting what the biggest gaining years are: 2001 - Shortened season??? 2002 -- The Elimination of poor performing clubs??? 2004 - Start of re-expansion 2007 - Beckham 2011 - Portland/Vancouver 2012 - Impact/East-West Schedule imbalance (did "rivalries" emphasis work?) Seattle addition went down, but was accompanied by the recession.
Will attendances stay good for the playoffs? How will the DC - NY game even happen now after Sandy...
Historically speaking, should be 17k, but last year they added shuttle service and were able to raise it to 20k for the New York playoff game.
okay. so somebody help me out here. i listed every SSFC and HOU attendance with a link to the stats/recap page on mlssoccer.com (hit the blue number). are we going for Houston the way the MLS Summary stats seem to have it 357,251? or are we going with the "correct" sum of all of the game recap/stats pages from mlssoccer.com (356,641)? As others have said the game recap/stats page says the 8/25 HOU v TFC game was 19,320. Is there a documented source for the other number of 19,930 for that game? If so I think we need to decided collectively which (if both have contradictory MLS documenations) we are to go with. And so I have the same question about the two disputed SSFC games. You can see below by following the links that the mlssoccer.com recap/stats pages show the following: 3/17 (vs TFC) - 38,709 3/31 (vs SJE) - 38,301 Is there any documentation from a team or league source that shows those games as 39,232 and 38,458? If it turns out there are two conflicting official documented attendances which are we going to go with? And is there any hope or avenue to get MLS to correct/fix these discrepancies? Anybody want to take that on? Anybody have connections to take that on?
Right - just saw that. Weird that they couldn't achieve this agreement for the New York game last year which surely would have sold out, while this one probably will not.
I thought historically the HDC is capped at 7.5k on week nights during the college school year? I do know they were able to work out a deal last year for the NY game.
Interesting! Thanks for the news. For them to bother with pushing the agreement past the 20k margin they originally agreed on may indicate that ticket sales are doing well. Hopefully they can get above 20k.
