From http://www.tc.umn.edu/~sedl0033/seats/seats_chart.pdf, there are 336 seats in section 201. The problem is, this is the view:
IDK about leaving it in the dust, but they did pick a great time to have a great season. Hopefully they can lock up a bunch of ST's going into the stadium.
Because it's an old stadium and I'm guessing they needed some sort of elevator to the field level for ADA compliance purposes. They had to put that elevator somewhere, and they decided that this would be the spot. Take a look at old stadiums around the US, you'll find worse seats, some of Wrigley Field's obstructed view seats have a beam beam literally 5 feet from the seat, you can't see a damn thing except for the TV that's mounted on the beam so that you can see the game. Anyhow, they had to make some tough decisions when they decided to renovate, I love the character of the stadium, I'm glad they chose to keep it and sacrifice 300 seats.
They should GreenMonsterize the top of the elevator shaft and have the guy with the most epic Cascadia beard sit up there in a LaZBoy. Also, that's two real good numbers from COL in a row.
also why cant portland expand the stadium at all someday? (obviously not anytime soon but in the next 10 years get it to 25k somehow...is their no room to do so...expanding the hallways and such)
another idea for portland can they extend the seats on the sides to go lower closer to the field? like they do in europe?
Yeah, kind of an off night for us. Not sure why. Maybe its because two weeks ago (6/30 and 7/4) we had two games close together and next week with the Swansea friendly we have two games close together (7/24 and 7/28). If you're a semi-dedicated fan the period between 7/4 and 7/24 is a good time to take vacations and such and you only miss one game.
Doesn't seem that bad to me. I can swear I remember a couple of times when they drew like 4K at Mile High back in the day. I'm not sure how long you've been following the league, but you give off the impression that you came in with the Sounders and are shocked and dismayed that every MLS stadium isn't sold out for every game.
This is the first thing I would change if I were Commish. What the hell is any MLS team doing playing the likes of Swansea mid-season? It's not even as if you can argue that you might convert all those rabid Swansea fans in the Denver area into Rapids fans. This is just cannibalizing your own business, as far as I can tell.
Soon... Soon... The FO has already sold out all the luxury boxes and their seats (the orange), and they're close to selling out all the club seats (the rest of the lower sideline seats) and those haven't even on on public sale yet. They're also telling people buying tickets that groundbreaking is in the fall time frame (one buyer has even been told October).
Why would this be a good idea at all? The height of the first row to the pitch is accidental but somehow serves two purposes: eliminates the potential of a full blown pitch invasion (too high) and provides great sight lines for the first few rows.
Bingo. Rows at field level may look great on TV, but I've always wondered why anyone would want to pay top dollar to look at the back of my head? Times have changed. There are no longer 20-30 people (including coaches, subs, ball kids, linesmen) on the touchline, but more likely 100 or more (security, photographers, television crew, medical personnel, and so on). NFL stadiums are built so that the front row fans have a chance to actually watch the game. The alternative, (Old Traffic for one) is to build a trench all the way around the field, but that's not always practical - and it pushes the fans back another 10-20 feet. Six of one, half dozen of the other, really.
Probably the same thing Celtic is doing playing Real Madrid during their season, only they're doing it on another continent from their own.
ummmm in England fans absolutely love sitting close to the pitch. why?. because the action is directly in front of you. we need more of that.
ummmm in Portland fans absolutely love sitting 8 feet above the pitch in the first row close to the pitch. why?. because the action is directly in front of you. we need more of that. look at jeld-wen. absolutely incredible environment.
